Recently, I installed four Philips Hue Color light bulbs and three Philips Hue White light bulbs in the layout room roof (according to the first image below), they all have E27 sockets. I then did a minor research on common Windows apps, trying to find an app that allows me to define both sunrise and sunset, with a white > red > blue sequence, and vice versa. I decided to test the ”Huetro for Hue” app further, at the cost of approx. 4 EUR you get the full version. Using this app, it is possible to define custom ”ambiences” (according to the second image below), adding bulbs on the ”Y axis” and their actions over time on the ”X axis”. The clip below is the first test of a sunset that is initiated by one single mouse-click. I am pretty happy with the result. However, so far I have only managed to add a maximum of 30 seconds sequences, a bit longer would be great (I have contacted the developer). Calibrating colors etc. would be the next step. It would also be nice if TrainController could ”call” e.g. custom ambiences from Huetro, to automate the process.

This is fun! BigGrin

great ! I have some Hue lights too and integrated the control of them into my layout control software. In addition to sunrise and sunset I also dedicate one white bulb for lighting flashes which ar synchronized with a thunderstorm sound effects that plays from two sides of the room....

can you also reduce intensity as well as color fade?

I was actually inspired by your post in this forum, but too lazy to develop software from scratch... Cool Yes, you can change both intensity and color fade, all with mouse-clicks only. A thunderstorm must be great to have! There are some fun ambiences included in Huetro, like ”police sirens” (flashing red/blu) and ”red alert” BigGrin. I plan to add Hue bulbs for the shadow station area and other hidden areas, for maintenance purposes. This really limits the cable work required!

Awesome. Looking at the video and images, thats the exact same layout room I'm building - putting the layout on shelves around the wall mounted to that track shelf system, with track lighting on the ceiling. So I'll follow with great interest how your experiments with the the software turns out. It would indeed be ideal if TrainControler/WinDigipet could kick off the sequences or at least get signals to synchronize things so if you had a chimney smoke system or other automated layout stuff, you could turn those off or on at sunset as appropriate.

I'd only experimented with one Hue track light bulb so far as a proof of concept since they are so expensive.

The other alternative I'm thinking about is the LED stripes that can be powered from a Digikeijs controller 4050 for lighting ( https://www.digikeijs.co...l-railroad-lighting.html )
The strips could be mounted directly above the around the room selves, maybe even supplement the hue light bulbs.

My thought was using the LED strips as the general lighting and using the hue bulbs in the track lighting to provide the directional lighting to create shadows and the lower angle effects of sunrise-sunset (using the lights as far away as possible from the wall, to aim as sideways as possible, to cast shadows intentionally.

Toys of tin and wood rule!

Looks great and what a neat idea.

I know Traincoller are able to start some external programs (like windows meadia player etc.) so I wonder if there is a way around to get access to your lights software program?

the Hue bridge as a JSON API that is accessible over HTTP. In other words, if any software can do an HTTP PUT, or GET it can control the lights. One would need to study the Hue light API which is online. That is what my layout control software does.

If it can launch an EXE file with parameters, it would be possible to create an EXE file to pass the commands on to the Hue bridge, but it would be hard to return data from the Hue bridge to the calling program - the latter is not critical in controlling lights, once their numbers are known.

Yeah, ideally we could have TC and others proved definable timed actions that when fired do get/put HTTP - that would be generic enough to enable 3rd party devices without having to go through the work and trouble of officially supporting them.

Today, I received the following reply from the Huetro software designer:

”I am planning on some improvements for the custom Ambiences (and improving the maximum time is one of those), planned for future updates.”
