Hello all,

My uncle has a folding marklin layout that my grandfather had built when they were living in Germany in the early 1960's. It was built by a layout builder named Fritz Berger, I am looking to learn a little more about him and haven't found much online. What we know is that apparently he did the bench work, track work and wiring and his wife did the scenery. They apparently also built dealer layouts for marklin. Anyway I was just curious if anyone was familiar with Mr. Berger and knew anything about him

Thanks

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Looks like there's another similar layout in Germany, also made by Fritz Berger:

That site doesn't appear to have anything to do with model railroads, I think it's a different fritz Berger but I don't speak German so I could be missing something.

Hi Kevin,
That is an interesting layout, as much for the track as for anything else.
It appears that Berger used the older Maerklin solid third-rail track, or it could be Trix Express track, or maybe even VB track from France.
Any other opinions?

Most of the layout is the older solid third rail marklin track this was track that my uncle already had as a kid that was given to Berger to use on the layout he supplemented this track with some of the newer type when need so as a result there are a few spots on the layout with the newer broken third rail
