digital decoder recommendations for Delta Locos

I have these delta locos which have bad running characteristics. 33121,34121, and 33185.
What do you recommend I do to get them running smoothly. Sound could be an option if the cost isn't too much more than a regular decoder so long as it will fit the loco.
I dont have any preferences or favorites. The 34121 has a Glockenanker motor

Delta deocders did not require a change of motor components, they can drive an AC motor directly. There may still be a Uhlenbrock decoder that is capable of driving an AC motor, and the only other decoder I know of that can do that is the TD101 from Argentina. https://www.marklin-user...1-decoder-from-Argentina

Uhlenbrock 76200 is widely available. I just installed 2 of them these days. DCC capable, Decent running characteristics, you can install an Intellisound3 module. I have installed them in some locos that i just dont want to remove the old AC motor, they have gave me a lot of fun.

For the 33185 i would definitely go for a full upgrade with 5 pole engine and loksoundV4 |

ESU LokSound/LokPilot decoders (with or without sound) with permanent magnets and existing 3 pole armature. |

Going the whole hog with ESU decoders and permanent magnets will give you much better driving than the TD101 / UB76200 and AC motor.

Following on from the advice above, I looked up the parts list for 2 of the locos, I found the list for a 33184 and a 3312 which both had the same Feldmagnet [ 231390 ] andMotorschild [ 231350 ] . I could not find the parts list for the 33121 though. The 3312 has the anker 2455480 and the 33184 [ 5 ] has the anker 231440.. I wont presume the 33121 has the same motor as the 3312, but it might. I went onto the ESU site and clicked on www.maerklin.de. and got 403 forbidden. Ha Ha. Marklin doesnt want to help ESU. |

Also what is the difference in performance between keeping the 3 pole armature and original shield and upgrading to the 5 pole kit? Let’s assume we use the same decoder in both scenarios. I'm yet to do a conversion using an existing 3 pole armature and motor cover with permanent magnet, but those who have say it does give better drive characteristics. The difference between a 3 pole and 5 pole upgrade would be in the better slow speed running, and startup torque. I'm sure folks who have done both types of upgrades can elaborate more than I can. Actually, I might be lying slightly, as I recall doing a decoder upgrade for a friend in a 3000 loco, and I'm recalling that he fitted that with a 3 pole armature and permanent magnet. It certainly drove better than standard.
