Hello Everybody.

I have a beginner's question for you.

Suppose that a beginner like me, with less than 10 Marklin steamers in his inventory (for the moment)Cool , without a permanent layout (yet, hopefully)Cool and with a MS 2, would like to get one Fleischmann steam locomotive.

Would I be able to control the Fleischmann loco with a MS 2 on Marklin C rails? Needless to say that the loco would be a 3rail version.

Thank you for your reply.

Regards

Paris

P.S. Do I understand correctly that most Fleischmanns are not full metal? Is it correct that their boilers are made of plastic?

I have a Fleischmann E19, (84 1911) that I picked up a number of years ago. The decoder is compatible with the Maerklin system, and operates well with my MS2. Unlike its Maerklin counterparts, the body is molded plastic. Still a great runner, smooth and nearly silent.

I have been running a sound equipped Fleischmann V 218 diesel with my MS for a long time; not the slightest problem.

the answer is absolutely yes, but you may have troubles reprogramming some old decoders, made in the era of the 6021. For new locos, not a single problem.

Thank you for your replies. It looks like it is worth trying a Fleischmann after all. I was looking at the new 391773 - Steam locomotive type S 10.1, K.P.E.V.

Looks like a great era i loco with great detail. The only think to consider is the plastic body. Don't know if it creates a problem on the long run (after years of use) - compared to a full metal body.

The things you need to check on are:
1) the physical connection, so as you said, for C-track you need to ensure the loc has the 3 conductor pickup
2) the decoder in the loco supports a protocol the MS2 supports - MM or DCC.
