Its £85ish on Ebay. However its the kind of thing in our house which as a Christmas pressie may not last until the new year before being destroyed by persons or animals unknown!

I think charging the vehicle battery from the 3 AAA batteries in the controller is plain dumb. Looks promising otherwise.

maybe, the vehicle runs for 35 minutes, and the transmitter power is listed as 10mW, so all the power requirements are low. It is listed as 2.4GHz, so I suspect it is Low Power Bluetooth or something similar. So charging the vehicle battery from the transmitter batteries is probably not a problem in terms of operational longevity, and vastly simplifies the infrastructure needed.

Besides using AAA cells in the transmitter will keep the weight low, and using alkaline cells would provide pretty reasonable capacity.

Sound would be very useful to identify which cat had eaten it.

I have seen these before - in fact there may be one in Miss 18's old toy box.. When I saw the cable used to charge the car, I remembered her old toy.. It was not a scale item like this one, but the hand controller is nearly identical.. I am also very sure that we paid nowhere near 90 Euro for it either..

It seems to me that operating the car gets pretty boring soon.
The Faller car system is more convenience.

I would concur with kweekalot because I have only one pair of hands. The Faller system is automatic.
Both are required to operate one VW bulli around the layout, almost like a drunk(as the sample video shows) running through the stopsigns and improper lane changes.
Are you required to have registration and insurance?
I would rather like to enjoy the Marklin running around the layout.
The remote controlled cars are best enjoyed throughout the house or outside.

I can see this one car being a fun side adventure - have the layout running in autopilot for a while (so this is for computer controlled layouts needless to say) and rather than manually working a train or shunting, instead pick up the remote and drive the road vehicle around the layout - obeying the signs/signals/guarded crossings/etc. Even more fun if you have a faller car based system in place that does auto-distance keeping and your driving the one manual car and not getting in a wreck.

Miss 18. I am sure I can remember when she was Miss 8. Blimey I am getting old.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

Hi all.
If you want a VW van running round your layout with your trains how about one of these ?

UserPostedImage

I had a VW Samba some years ago and wanted to build a small circular layout in the back over the engine compartment to give some interest at car shows etc. Made by Brawa/Eheim and available for 3-rail although my version is 2-rail.
They still turn up occasionally and there was a recent model by Brekina.
It took me about 20 years to find one ( no ebay in those days ) but eventually found this one in Germany.
Unfortunately by that time I had sold the van so never achieved my aim.
Regards, Colin.

Very cool. I have seen lots of these micro RC cars before and thought they were close enough to HO that once could hack them into an existing truck or van from Brekina etc. The failure was always the turning radius was too wide for any type of realistic streets (and many were too fast as they were geared to toy use). They seem to have got it right with this little guy - not sure the price is right though!

Reminded me of this video I had bookmarked of a home-made unimog in 1:87.

I bought it, it runs really smooth and nice, quite funny to use it around the layout.
