Having an issue with my MAXI. I only set it up for Christmas. Just got it going and I'm having intermittent failure/no power. Ran fine, played with it awhile. Decided to stop the train and turn on the smoke generator. Now I'm getting intermittent power. When I can get it to move, it goes just fine until I do a full stop, then nothing.

Hi,

How do you supply your Layout? Digital or just a transformer? Did you clean the rails?

Regards

Aside from the above. I strongly recommending using the track clips.. The part number is 56031. They do three things. Help to keep the track from pulling apart (when the cat and the dog decide to chase each other over the track), provide better electrical contact AND they provide a point to connect additional wiring.

You need two at each join (one each side). The difference is amazing.

I have track clips, haven't used them lately. I will put them on. That said, the transformer was hot. I unplugged it and went about other activities. Plugged it up after it cooled off. Alles gut!

This suggests that maybe the loco needs oiling, especially if this is the only time of year it comes out. When was the last time you did any maintenance on the loco?

I can't vouch for all Maxis, but the three we have are can motors and the gears use a grease.. I have done no maintenance on them in 15 years and they are only run for a short time every second year at Christmas.. So I don't think that these locos are suitable to the same problems as their H0 cousins..
