I had a special delivery from Santa Today. the elves said it was too big for the sleigh and they would not have had time to mount. Looks big. Think I can use most of the shelving. time will tell Edited by user 24 December 2017 04:44:57(UTC)

Where's my Maersk container wagons?? Oh, that's right, you sold them! Looks good Nevie, except one picture is rotated 90 degrees! I have to lean left to view it properly! Are there no steam locos? As for Maersk containers, I got the ones that Marklin released this year.

Looking at the Cabinet with all stock items loaded it does looked like it needed more stock, however I being a master model rail smuggler realised that I had made a fundamental error, they need to be more widely separated . This shall be done in the next day or so. Then when more items are smuggled into the house they can be fitted in without being noticed. below is a series of pickies which may duplicate previous pics. This is bring the total fleet into view. |

Good tip Nev re widening the gaps.
I was caught out in 2017 smuggling and was ordered to go "straight" in 2018.
The financial controller has agreed to the display case on the basis that she will be able to see what's there.
You've given me hope!!

The display case has another advantage. I cannot leave anything on the table that is not glued down. so not having to put wagons etc back into their boxes and then into a cupboard but just onto the shelf somewhere is a great time saver. also I can look at everything and decide what to pick up and place on the rails. |

Hey Nev, is this a self-made cabinet, custom build, kitset?
I would love something like that myself.
And just curious, any reason for not having track to put the items on? even el-cheapo 2-rail can look good.
Another thing I would do myself is for lighted passenger cars to be able to illuminate them on display.
Great cabinet, much envy here. I've tried to get our club going on making some as a members project but slow gaining traction. |

Cookie, Thanks Custom made, did a drawing and gave it to our handyman who is good at wood butchery and has the tools. I did not use rails due to cost (approx $150). 1400m wide 15 shelves Peco track 6.50 per 900mm. so instead had a channel 9mm routed into each shelf (N scale). works well. 12.5mm ply for rigidity and 10mm Pine outer casing.
I had ideas of using 6mm ply for shelves and slotting into grooves in sides and back with a stiffener below front of shelf to prevent sagging. builder decided to use heaver ply glued and screwed. you could use track on shelves with passenger carriages, channel for other shelves. I think that the master display cabinet maker, the Scottish marklin man Ian, may offer some suggestions. But I am happy with what I have. It is now so easier to get a running session going. Cheers

Based on my experience with custom building cabinets in my train room, the most expensive bits will be the glass doors.

Mine are Plexiglass Perspex or polycarbonate or whatever you call it. $120 for the doors 30 for the tracks. |

Even 3 rail tracks not suitable for 3 rail running as they are plastic, and only 5.7mm between rails. Suitable only for sliding glass doors for cabinets, cannot use them to replace M track. |

Ta Ian, As I cannot keep trains on the layout it beats going through drawers, collecting what you think you are going to run carrying it out to the layout taking out of boxes, and when finished putting all back in boxes and taking back inside and stack back in hte drawer. I had some storage boxes but management stacked other items on top making it a wee bit difficult to get out of the cupboard. So easy to slide the door open, and place items on the layout. similar to putting them away.
