If the current list proves valid: best new items since years. That era 2 BR42 will be definately ordered. I wonder whether there is a matching car set as well.
Can't wait to see pictures but any version is OK (grey, red/black, camo, ...).

Since Stephen has the new items brochure (see above), he could at least tell us what Z and G1 items will be coming, even if he can't post the images.

Hi Steven,
Just curious...are you affiliated with Marklin? How were you able to get the materials so early?

Well, this is unfair.

Well ... if you ask a lot of questions, you are supposed to receive a lot of questions too ...
Stephen, do you know the old good Class C Era I 37118 .... is it Green or Blue Grey livery ???? Dying out of curiosity. I only have the black one and I would love to get a provincial one.
Thanks

I wonder if the 39227 will be a new tooling of the E94 or still have the clunky old DCM motor?

It´s possible Märklin will present new brake modul which allows brakes in both direction for the new generation decoder.

The only thing relevant to present is a mfx-detection module that would allow the CS to know which train is in a given section of the layout. That would allow the CS to bring the train to a stop if needed. An event in the CS could be something like "IF train A is in section B AND signal A is red THEN stop train A". That would be something.
That would finally allow us to get rid of braking modules and powerless sections.

As Dale Schultz has repeatedly told us, this is possible now by using appropriate PC control software and plenty of track sensors.

That would involve buying a Railcom license AIUI as they have a patent on doing this, and I can't see Marklin doing that.

But having that is useless without having a catalog to look at, it won't show anything until then.

Yeah he tells us all the time, I know, but I don't want a PC in my train room. I want the freedom to just take a loco and run it, and have events act accordingly.
I want the Central Station to be able to react to loco movements based on mfx feedback. The PC does not really know where every train is, it simply performs a qualified guess based on its knowledge of the starting position of each loco + all subsequent moves. Move one loco by hand and you ruin everything. I don't think that is true automation.
When Märklin releases true feedback modules, it will make it possible for the Central Station to do lots of cool stuff, as you will be able to include ANY loco in your event and have the CS perform tasks on any loco that is in any given section. That would be awesome.

It is totally possible to do it with mfx. There might be a patent of some sort, but patents have a way of running out. We'll see, it might not be this year, but it will come for sure. It is the only true future of the digital model railroad.

If you are going to have "the hand of God" move things around randomly then you are asking for trouble, expecting the control electronics to sort it out is going to create another set of ongoing problems.
Just having each booster report what locos it can see is not going to give you enough granularity in detection. While technically the current boosters can do this (i.e. they can tell the cs 'hey, a loco has been put on the track I control, here are it's details'), each track block and siding will need its own loco detector. That is beyond the current boosters (unless you are very rich and prepared to fit your layout with zillions of boosters.

Patents are also renewable, so it could be quite a long time before Marklin could do it, unless they find a loophole in the Railcom patent. But also see my previous reply a moment ago.

Using a computer, yes. My vision is a layout equipped with a future mfx feedback module that can detect a given loco in a given section. That will not create problems, you place the loco in a section and it is detected by the module. By "hand" I also mean picking up the Mobile Station and simply move the loco. I would also be able to kill off braking modules as I would simply have an event stop a train if a signal is red.
It would be an awesome solution - and no additional pc is needed.

Boosters that support mfx should be enough. RailCom detection modules do not require the setup you describe (with zillions of boosters). It should be possible to develop an mfx detection module that would do the exact same thing as the railcom detection module.
Basically the exact same thing as RailCom, but with mfx (since that is what Märklin is betting on). Patent may be preventing it, I don't know, I have only heard that in this forum. I bet the CS3 is already equipped with everything needed to support this (perhaps even including the RailCom chip - just in case).

OK, so take
this layout
being discussed in another thread, and take the schattenbahnhof as pictured in the top right picture. Logically one would feed this whole layer with one booster, but how is the cs2/3 to know which track the trains are stopped in and hence which track is free, if you don't have a detector per track?
I am aware that there are Railcom detectors from multiple sources that you put between a booster and a track where one wishes to detect a train, and in such an instance one would put four such detectors here, one for each storage track (or a single four detector unit).

I imagine a module with 16 inputs (or something) just like the S88 modules, but with the ability to report back to the CS which train is there. I never said, that there should not be any modules. I just said that braking modules and power less sections could be avoided.

My two bobs worth.
Yes model railways has a long way to go to keep pace with "the internet of things" applications.
As for the PC part, well the CS has always been a PC at heart, just not very developed.
So there is no reason why the CS3 is unable to achieve what Maerklinlife wishes to do, if the instruction set is so designed.
For a start, both bluetooth and WiFi spectrums are able to provide the tools for trigonometric positioning.
So once your layout is set up, running an engine (or a specially equipped wagon) around the layout will "map" your entire empire.
In that fashion, the system may know where any given engine is located in real time.
This may replace or reduce the reliance on multiple sensors.
Hence the input of accessories (signals, uncouplers etc) might be done graphically on the CS3 screen.
The trains may then (via the CS3) interact with the state of the accessory.
As for Railcom, yes the patent is on the chip(s). Please correct me if incorrect.
I cannot see any impediment for Maerklin or anyone else replicating the achievement by another method.

C'mon Alex, that post tells me you haven't read the entire thread and you're being lazy. I suggest you go read the thread from start to finish (hint: Pay special attention to posts #25 and 26).

I hear on the grapevine that 1 Gauge items will be:
New versions of the BR78.
Some passenger coaches in DB and DR.
EVA and VTG Kesselwagens and other freight cars.
BR103 loco.
I had a feeling Marklin might issue a G1 BR103, since it is 11 years since the last one. The Kesselwagens will allow me to add to my tank wagon train. Might be an expensive year!

Here a video from a train spotter.
It looks like that this new locos are commuting from 2018 onwards as a regional express on the new high speed tracks between Nuernberg (N) (where the toy fair happens) and Munich (M) (where the Oktoberfest happens) together with the ICE. Of course they get passed by the ICE while they are in the staions between N

or type "br 102 fuehrerstand" into Google pictures.
enjoy the new sound and pictures of a brand new loco
P.S.: the often used word "DOSTO" is in German the abbreviation for "Doppelstockwagen" in English double-deck coach.

A few other things I've heard re the 2018 new items:
- Item 47800 is a new freight car that Marklin do in a lot of versions.... in DB, in SBB and private rail company's like AAE
- The Re 6/6 announced is in Xrail livery
- There's another mP3000 from NS in a set with a freight car

Hi PGV POS,
Today I had access to a computer. I connected my tablet and searched in the directory of the Märklin App with this weekend's update. Unfortunately there are no new files. So the update is only the app and not new files with 2018 products.

Hi Bigdaddynz,
if your info is correct for the Re 620, this will be a good news as it is the only livery of the Re 620 that is missing in their catalogue.
Enjoy your day.

Great news, this one is on my order list.
true this old prototype paint scheme existed in real, Märklin did that paint scheme on the Re 4/4 II (art 34345) and on the Re 460 (art 39603). Another paint scheme hasn't be done yet by Märklin is the red Re 6/6 No 11626 of the SBB with the mustache

Are you sure about the panto? Im wondering how expensive it will be and if it is with sound or not. Hope its price will be under the Brawa e44.

I saw the functional panto, is quite cool (even if I prefer to avoid this kind of things because, as thumb rule, the more the functions the more the chances of something breaking). Price should not be higher than normal.
Ep. III (My layout is set in 1962).
I collect mainly DSB, DB and SBB but I'm quite... Open minded.
I'm quite a big collector of NOHAB lok :)

Both are using the word 'grapevine' in the same way, hearing something on the grapevine is to hear a rumour.
