Tried to update CS2 this morning MST. It does not update. After few seconds it says in German that update is complete and remains at 4.1.2.

Yes I tried using USB. Now CS2 can not recognize the USB stick. Weird. Recently I updated the icons for my new locos using the USB stick.

Can the update be applied in a year's time?

Yes of course, as long as Marklin keep the update available on their website.

You might want to download the USB update of 4.2 from the link given in my post above, and save that file. Then you know you have the update available for whenever you are able to apply it.

The UI when mapping functions as also changed, it looks more like the CS3 as i have seen in the manual.
Bad things....to access CV is now slower and in the main UI, you have to know if your model has more than 16 functions, there is no indication on display of the possibility, no problem now since i have only one loco with more than 16 functions, but it may come a little messy in the future.

Tried to update my CS2 to Version 4.2 tonight 21:00 Hrs but screen says "Update Complete" & still reads Version 4.1.2 (3) My current Version Update Status.
Have rebooted CS & retried several times to update to Version 4.2 but still not successful.
Has anyone else had similar problems - what could be the fix to the problem?

Hi
I've just also updated to 4.2.1 successfully. No issues so far...
I noticed that you have to reload locomotives with 32 functions again before you can use all 32 functions.

Hi, played a little more today and 2 problems arise, a little one, and other more itchy....
Some dialogs are in German, just a little annoying, the more uncomfortable one is that when you are mapping and configuring functions, you cannot test the effect, at least in some findeable wayRollEyes, of your changes unless you exit the CV configuration page and test from the main one, wich is veeery slow making the whole process not very pleasantThumbDown

Has anyone else encountered that after this upgrade the MFX symbol appears on the Control screen for every Loco regardless of whether it is an MFX loco or not? When I go to the loco selection screen it displays them all correctly, but not on the Control screen.

Using one language at a time and not mixing them as on the consumables screen shown above might be a good idea.

After a couple of reboots this has now disappeared. Once again only MFX locos show the symbol. Strange glitch.

This seems to be a very glitchy update. Aside from the MFX logo issue I had, I now have the following issues after this update:

- After shutting down the CS2 with power still connected, clicking the Stop bar occasionally will not restart the CS2. All I get is an "@ something" message each time I click the Stop bar. I have to shut all the power off to get it to restart

- The network IP address keeps changing even though I have the CS2 configured to manually set the IP address and network server address since I use Rocrail and need to keep the addresses fixed. Previously I only had this issue right after an update, but not consistently with every reboot/restart

- The transformer issue mentioned previously by another member shows partial numbers only such as "600" instead of the full transformer number. Hard to select the correct trafo

- Yesterday while sitting idle and not controlling anything or touching anything the CS2 screen blanked out, the Stop bar started blinking for several minutes and the screen came back. No short circuit reboot, just a strange behaviour I have never seen before

- When adding a new locomotive, I get a choice of 8 or 16 functions only. How would you select a 32 function configuration?

- Since this update I can no longer add any PNG icon files to the CS2 icon database.

Most of the issues go away after a restart, but it seems with every restart a new issue pops up. My CS2 was operating normally up until this update, so I can only assume there are several new bugs in this update, or are these signs of an imminent CS2 failure?

Peter

Hi I wonder if someone can help with the problem I am experiencing with the update to 4.2.1. The CS2 has been updated and shows Version 4.2.1(0) on the version screen. However the main screen has not been updated as per post 21. When I go into the Net Update Screen It shows "Import_USB (V evergreen : 15.12.2014)" in Bold. When I press Start. I get the message "Kein USB-Stick gefunden" I then press the Green Tick box and that takes me back to the main screen.

The Maerklin Web Site states "Current information about the new functions in Software Version 4.2 (pdf). The best way to get a fast CS2 update is to connect the CS2 directly to a network with Internet access (example: at the network output for the router). This offers the advantage of always receiving the newest update for the CS2. A USB update is not offered at the same time for technical reasons".

Any ideas on how to resplve this problem would be very much appreciated

Regards

Martin

If there are many entries, but "evergreen" is the only bold entry, then this indicates that all updates have been installed.

Did you select mfx locos for the left and right controllers?
Locos with more than 16 functions must be re-registered after the upgrade.

Hi Tom,

Many thanks. At present I do not have any locos with more than 16 functions. All my rolling stock is LGB. I will try selecting an mfx loco as you suggest and will report back.

Updated last night via Network. It did take some time but all working properly. Only issue I have is that some dialogue boxes in German, some in English and some in a mixture. Hope this will be sorted in next update.

Hi guys Cool

I tried to update the v4.2.1 with a usb stick.

On his website, Marklin writes :

''• Download the files cs2update.md5 (1 KB) and cs2update.img (135 MB) and store them on a USB stick in the main register. The file CS2 Update (cs2update.img) can be found in the Download Area at the top after confirmation of the license agreement.''

Ok but when I go to download-area , i find this :

Capture 1 du 1207.PNG

a) the cs2 update does npt work
b) the cs2 update . md5 is 48 kb...Marklin writes 1 kb ??? Is it the correct file ?

Lower on the same page I find:

Capture 3 1207.PNG

I suppose that this is the file cs2update.img 130 mb that i must download. Why Marklin writes that this a 135 mb ????Good thing I did not work as chartered accountant as Marklin comments on its explanations, all my balance sheets would have been false.

In conclusion, I made nothing for the simple and good reason that I am not certain of files to be downloaded on the usb stick

Thank you for your reply

The files I downloaded are 48 B and 136,314,880 B in size respectively.

Windows Explorer shows "1 KB" for the MD5 file.
Windows Explorer shows "133,120 KB" for the IMG file in Details view, but shows 130 MB in the Status window when I select the file.

For some folks there are 1,000,000 bytes in a Megabyte, for Windows and many other folks there are 1,048,576 bytes in a Megabyte.

With the various ways to display the file size, some folks will use "130 MB", "133 MB" or "136 MB" for the file discussed here.
"48 KB" is a typo for the file with just 48 B.

I downloaded the update files but did not try them. My CS2 fetched the upgrade while it was connected to the ’Net.
This way you do not have to rely on the confusing Märklin documentation.

Thewolf, don't forget to use flash stick in FAT or FAT32 file system. If it's in NTFS it will NOT be recognized by CS2!

I suppose that this is the file cs2update.img 130 mb that i must download. Why Marklin writes that this a 135 mb ????

Thank you Tom

I appreciated

Mine is formatted NTFS and was recognized just fine by the CS2.

Hello all!

Well...after 7 years of CS2 updates, the last one went wrong. The CS2 has some erratic behaviours, signals not working, when it starts, the "stop" is on etc. I have tried to restore a previous backup, but the behaviour is still the same.

Beyond that I have 2 MS2 connected to it, and one is always updating after a reboot or when I turn the CS2. if i disconnect the MS2 and connect again..she starts to update I don't know what, the version is the last one and is the same of the other MS2.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Miguel

Exact same behaviour on my CS2 after the update. Aside from the list of items I mentioned in a previous post, the stop is on after every restart/reboot which I thought was a new safety feature, and like you I have an MS2 that wants to update after each reboot.

In my opinion some major bugs in this update version.

Hello!

Like you, I thought the stop on on the beginning was a safety feature (a strange one), but then I realized this update is indeed "buggy".

My CS 2 was perfectly fine after 7 years, and I only did the update because I have 4 Roco locos with more functions. This really backfired on me, and the symptoms are frustrating, specially the MS2 always updating.

Well, I guess I will have to wait for some sort of solution.
