SUMMARY:
The Berlin to Warsaw Express (BWE) began as a separate named train in 2002. The train set consisted of six dedicated coaches, 4 provided by the PKP and 2 provided by the DB. Various changes in end stations, timetables, and equipment have taken place since 2002. This composition reflects the train as run in 2014. Interestingly, the PKP EU44 locomotive now is able to pull this train all the way, eliminating the need for a locomotive change at the border and gaining a 10-minute time savings.

ACME has offered other BWE sets, but this review covers only the sets I was able to obtain recently - the ACME 55095 and 55096 sets provided 5 of the six required coaches. The Roco 64424 dining coach rounds out the composition as of 2014. Non-BWE liveried equipment is used in some trains due to BWE equipment availability. I may review a mixed composition train at a later date.

ACME 55095 set 1:
Set 1 contains the DB Avmz 1st class wagon and one of the PKP B11mnouz 2nd class wagons. Wow! This was my first non-Marklin passenger coach set, and the ACME set is amazing! The full-length coaches (OK – no more R1 curves) have smooth, crisp paint schemes with easily ready logos and markings. The color separation lines are clean, and the colors appear to match prototype very closely.

The under-carriage details are well executed. I did install Marklin close couplers – they work well for display but are too tight even for broader curves. I’ll install the ACME couplers for running since they have a little extra play. Interiors are fully executed on all of the cars.

ACME 55096 set 2:
Set 2 contains 3 2nd class PKP coaches: 1x Bmnopuvz, 1x B10mnouz and 1x B11mnouz.

ROCO 64424 dining coach:
This DB dining car (in BWE livery) rounds out the six wagons in the BWE. I do want to say that the Roco coach is well executed, and it fits in well with the ACME coaches. Level of detail os slightly less, proportions are similar, and it fills in the BWE dining car gap nicely.

CLOSING:

I am very happy with both the ACME sets and the Roco dining car. I plan to install interior lighting and passengers in the Berlin to Warsaw Express. I have bright pink EU44 in T-Mobile livery assigned to pull this set. I’m very happy with the quality of the set, despite the drawbacks associated with full length passenger coaches (no R1 curves). I will include a long passenger station along with larger radius curves in order to run this great looking train.

OTHER ACME BWE SETS:
ACME has previously released other BWE sets. Some digging on the internet, I came up with the following:

Wagen Nr: 61 51 21-90 004-2 Bmnouz
Wagen Nr: 61 51 21-90 018-2 Bdmnu
Wagen Nr: 61 51 20-90 040-7 Bdimnu

ACME 52739: see http://www.reisezugwagen.eu/?p=10661
Ergänzungswagen Bmnopuvz “Berlin-Warschau-Express”, Ep. VI
Wagen Nr: 61 51 21-90 010-1 Bmnopuvz

3 RAIL VERSIONS:
Yes – AC wheel sets are available for the ACME coaches as well as the Roco coach.

Marklin did a single coach in this livery that was sold through the DB Post shop. I have one, can't recall the catalogue number off hand.
