Hello

In the last days, the web site
http://mobadb.gleiswarze.de/mobadb-webapp/
is down. this site usually is a very good resource due a their great model railroad database, especially with märklin.

Does anyone know what happened?

Best regards

Offline for indefinite time period due to technical problems ("attacks" from various French IP addresses). German notification:

Very sad. Maybe, Achim can restrict the Access only to registered users.

Unfortunately, there is no easy fix for this kind of attack other than to identify the IP addresses and get the ISP to block them.. The problem is that as soon as you block one, more come to replace that one. Taking down the site is a good short-term strategy, as the attackers get bored and move on to someone else.

You can set up your site to accept connections from only known IP addresses, but this creates additional problems:
1. How do you attract new members?
2. Some people have ISP services that provide dynamic IP addresses, which means that their IP address changes periodically. So they would connect one day, but after (usually 28 days) they will get a new IP address.
3. Even if you lock by IP address, there is nothing to say that the new member won't post spam (a problem we get here from time to time).
