Reducing default speeds of Battery type Marklin trains

Hi everyone If this is in the wrong area can a Mod please move? As the title says I need to open up my 3 or 4 battery trains and do something with the electronics to allow them to operate at much slower speeds.
Knowing next to zero about electronics and barely able to solder these days (poor eyesight) I need help, advice and hand holding.
I gather in most speed control situations the inclusion of a resistor somewhere across the speed circuit to reduce current is the way to go but what value resistor, what pin to attach to etc escapes me.
Has anyone already done this, do we have electronic savvy techs here ? You know, people who know resistor colour bands/values and Ohms law by first names LOL The battery trains I have are listed in my sig
Thanks for looking

Hi, Shanny! I never opened my battery-powered trains and I don't know how they make the three speed steps they currently support. If those speed steps have been realised with software (firmware), then diodes would be my first choice. If those speed steps have been realised with hardware, then maybe you just have to replace resistors and/or capacitors to change the speed. This could require SMD soldering - so diodes could still be the easy solution. Diodes and resistors will turn battery power into heat - trains run slower, but battery life will not change much. Regards Tom --- "In all of the gauges, we particularly emphasize a high level of quality, the best possible fidelity to the prototype, and absolute precision. You will see that in all of our products." (from Märklin New Items Brochure 2015, page 1) ROFLBTCUTS |
