In the process of "waking-up" my old engines that have been boxed since 2007, I have a problem with my Roco SBB Ae 6/6 as you can see in the clip. It has the multi-protocol (MM and DCC) Uhlenbrock 76500 decoder, and the engine was fine in my "good old" Märklin 6021 days. Would anyone have an idea of the unpolite beaviour? Confused One of my few guesses is that my CS2 is confusing the decoder, and that I should try to configure it again, maybe on DCC? Or maybe it's broken? Blushing

Another thing... I was running the above engine by simply adding the vehicle in TrainController using its address (5). Is there a need to also add the engine within CS2?

Confused Peter

First you have to enter the loco in your CS2 and select the proper protocol (DCC or MM2): check if it runs correctly when controlled directly by the CS2.
Check also the polarity of the the conductors from the CS2 and the track (Red on center and Brown on actual tracks).

I experienced the same feature on another engine with an old Roco 10738 decoder. In the #3 post by member "H0" in the Configuring a Roco AC locomotive thread, it was suggested to test an address above 255. This did the trick with the Roco 10738 decoder! However, it didn't help for the Uhlenbrock 76500 decoder which seems to be broken... My dealer suggested a Zimo MX630 decoder (as the available space is pretty small), and the Ae 6/6 now works great! I'm amazed by all the DCC CV options available... BigGrin

Cool Peter

Sometime it's better to enable the decoder for either MM or DCC, not both (usually it's a bit of CV19)

Last weekend a friend brought a Roco VT 98 loco (using a, ESU Loksound decoder) to my layout which is controlled by an Intellibox.

We controlled it fine with address 3 under MM
Then we tried it under address 98 and DCC and we saw similar behavior. It would continually start up and reset itself.

I had address 3 called up on one controller and address 98 called up on the other speed control.
I suspected that since we had now used both addresses, the Intellibox was including both in the refresh cycle.
I selected another address on one of the controllers and after a few minutes the loco behaved itself once again.

I suspect the same is happening to you. The decoder may be switching between DCC and MM format.

Try disabling one of the two formats as suggested above.
