Hi all, So I bought this set at a toy fair yesterday, not realising its weirdness until after I got it home. As you can see there's an F800 pictured on the box, and the loco in the set is indeed an F800 (I've not pictured the tender as it was obviously a replacement from a 3048). The weird thing is that the coaches are models 341, 342 and 343, which as far as I can figure out were discontinued about two years before the F800 was introduced? Stranger still, there's no model number on the box, and the box consists solely of the loco and coaches, with no track. At first I thought it was originally part of one of those train sets where the box was in two layers and I only had the top layer of the box, but I think the box lid fits too well for that to be the case. I've (hopefully) attached the only photo I managed to get of it before my camera battery died, I'll take some better photos of it later. So my question is, does anyone know what's going on here, and has anyone seen a train set like this before? All I can think of is that a previous owner put the wrong coaches in the box at some point-if so does anyone know what should be in there instead? Many thanks in advance! Cheers, Jake

You are likely right, as the rack would have had to fit in there someplace as well. What is the part number on the end of the box? |

Unfortunately I can't find a part number anywhere on the box, or even an outline from where it fell off! :(

The box looks too new to me, it could be a set that someone has made up with a reproduction box.
The picture on the box was common to almost every set that Marklin way back around the time this set is attempting to represent.

Yeah, I think you're right actually. What I'm probably going to do is just sell off the loco and coaches individually on ebay. I only paid £85 for the set so I think I'll get most of my money back.

It's definitely not original and someone has spent a bit of time making up the internals. You should get your money back. Roger

I think there is some truth in it, someone has carefully cut out the new cardboard and placed the old carriages into it and the same goes for the loco, the loco was usually sitting a styrofoam box.
