I just completed building my table and setting up my tracks, so now it's time to hook up all the switches etc. I have yet to buy the transformers, and that is what my question is about :

What is the voltage output again of the transformers for an analog system using M-track.
I can remember something like the varialbe part (for the trains) is 0-13V and the fixed side is 17V, all AC of course .....
Am I correct in my assumption ?

I appreciate the help anyone could give me.....Gerben

Thanks,

Gerben

The fixed voltage is nominally 16 V. The variable voltage is nominally 4 V-16 V (could be 0 too, of cause). The over-voltage for direction change is nominally 24 V. The actual voltage is often a bit higher than the nominal, my transformer gives around 18 V.

Thanks Perz, that helps a lot. I am planning on setting up seperate transformers for lights etc., which is why I wanted to know the output voltage.

Gerben

Thanks,

Gerben

The original Marklin transformers are of a special type. When overloading, the output voltage drops (for safety reasons) and there is also a build in protection for overload conditions.
If you buy and use a "standard" transformer, do not forget to add some protecting devices!

cvdw, good call. I am planning on getting 3 or 4 transformers, just so I can spread the load. I would hate to burn the place down right away .............

Thanks,

Gerben
