After finding this old gem on YouTube over the weekend, which contains a DB film (from 1981) about how the German Hilfszug (help train), that shows and illustrates the process of how to address 4 or 5 detailment types on a variety of trains depending on how much is derailed (what can be pivoted where), what is derailed (loco or fragile tanker car) and even if its flipped on its side...

I got to thinking, one can model the re-railing of derailed trains on the layout as well. Stock a hilfszug in a station and then figure out how to get it to the scene to correct the issue... not just reach out and put it back via hand of god (though that will happen once the hilfszug is at the scene).

Does anyone do this?

Yep. that's a classic gem if ever there was one. I think old Hagen von Ortloff, the introductory voice, speaks some of the clearest and finest German I have ever heard. I was also reminded of my student days when I worked in Scottish coal mines. When a 'tub' which held half a ton of coal or a damn sight more if it was stone, was derailed, you really had to jam your arse seriously into it and heave to get it back on the rails.
I heard that lonesome whistle blow. Hank Williams
