I have Maerklin diesel shunting loco (3065) with Telex uncoupler from the late 70s. Can this model be converted to Digital, and most importantly, can the Telex function also be digitalised.
Not so much how to do it, just can it be done at all.
It might seem a waste of time and money to convert such an old model, but there appear to be few locos with Telex among current products, and I have also heard that the old Telex mechanisms work better than the current offerings.
Thanks.

It surely can be done.

Märklin made several digital V 60 models with 37xxx ref number and old-style Telex couplers. It should be easy to get one on eBay.
37652 was the first with metal body (2003).
I think the recent ones with sound also have new-style Telex.

New-style Telex work better with close couplers, old-style Telex works better with loop-and-hook couplers.

Tom

I have 3665 purchased new in 1995ish which is basically the 3065 with the original 6080 decoder with just one function which operates the telex coupler old style hook jobby - lights are permanently on. Would be a relatively simple job to convert this however you can almost always find one on Ebay for £40 - £60. Mine still works well (ish) and I agree with Tom about old and new telex couplers and which couplers they work best with.

Hello Jabez,

Yes, I have done that:

I had an analogue 3141 which came in the first starter set I bought about 1983. I then converted it to telex with the various parts (the chassis housing had the recesses since same mould as the 3065 type, I believe.

Thus I then had the equivalent of the 3065 and later converted this to digital about 1998. :

As you can see from the roof wear, over the years it has been loved to bits by the whole family BigGrin

Hello,

I have done this to 2 of my 3065.
You would need new high efficiency motor set from marklin.
New decoder - I used Lockpilot with MFX - after some programming this allows you to have the loco do an uncoupling "dance" - push - uncouple and pull away, all with one button press.

That is one advantage to even the new marklin decoders.

Fun conversion and practical too.

Regards,

Maciej
