I am considering this set (SBB Ce 6/8 and SJ Da ) as I really like it, but I don't understand, for the high price it sells for, why Marklin didnt use a sound function decoder in these locs? What am I missing here?

Don

I have wondered the same thing. This set is not the first of these limited kind of sets to be without the latest electronics or whatever.
Their thinking sure beats me.

I passed on this set, for a model equally as impressive, in my minds eye, but that is me.BigGrin

These are reproductions of classic models. They should come as analogue but Marklin no longer make purely analogue locos so they fit a basic decoder so that you can run it in either analogue or digital.

If you want a loco with all the bells and whistles you can get the latest equivalents of these locos with sound decoders and additionally the loco will be a scale model, much more accurate than the old classic tooling.

I think you are missing the point by asking for the latest electronics in a reproduction of a 1950s model.

Ok, Thanks for the replies. I now understand that this was done for nostalgic reasons, to be as true as possible to the early originals, with a nod to accommodating modern electronics. Interesting.
I could be wrong, but I wouldn't think that modern reproductions of classic models, even with a 'limited' production run of 3,000, will ever be valued as a collectable. If I were a collector, I would only be interested in the originals.
I am only interested in running them and having fun, thats why I was curious about no sound.
Cheers!
