I just finished to digitized my old Marklin 3102 (BR53). It's my first refurbishment I have ever done. I use Motor Kit 69041 + Digital Kit 69042 Got my share of challenges, with the cabels to get them to fit in the tight space under the boiler, for the front Light and smoker. I would suggest to use ESU cables as they are about 1/2 size in thickness compared to Marklin Cables. Also with the motor cover plate, you need to turn it that the brushes are below, otherwise there is no space in the shell and the train will not take curbs. the space is thigh. Digital Decoder has to go into the Tender and there same extremely tight, you need to cut the bracket of the old direction exchange away so you can lay-down the decoder, as it does not fit if you try to screw it on the old bracket. you will not be able to put the cover back on. And Future speaker will need to find a spot in the Tender, where i don't know yet. Also by reassembly, watch how tight you screw the upper screw of the boiler, if you go to tight the wheels will not touch the track so release the screw until you get perfect contact. I have added some picture to assist my explanation. If you have any advise on where to place the speaker? Decoder place Tender - Bracket removed Motor Cover looking Down Top Screw Too tight, Only back wheel touching the track Top Screw Loose and all wheel touch the track Edited by user 27 September 2016 04:04:28(UTC)

I upgraded my 3302, which is similar to 3102 except the color. I put the speaker on top of the tender. It exactly fit inside the top, no glue or any sort of fastener will be required. But you need to drill several small holes on the tender-top, where the coal is located, so that the sound can come out. Luckily the coal's color is black, thus the holes will not be apparent. Tiono, thank you for the tip, and yes you do not see the holes from the top.
