Marklin Fans,

I was about to purchase the diesel loco Marklin 37805 and searched quite exhaustively on internet to find detailed images which show the Cooling fan details....I wasnt successful.
Can any member who owns this loco help me and share any images they may have? I am exclusively looking for details of the cooling fan and the fan grill.

Or can any Marklin fan suggest me an equivalent model with well detailed cooling fan features?

I am impressed by the color scheme and other body details of the 37805. Only the cooling fan features are holding me so far.

Thanks
Vijay

So, do the cooling fan features come seperate along with the model and snap onto those empty spots?

Looking forward to your reply.

Vijay,

With this model, this is the level of detail you get. I have this a as well; the cooling fans just aren't that detailed. There are no separately applied details. This is based on Marklin's V200 tooling that came out in the early 90sif that helps to put it in perspective. Otherwise the paint on the model is very nice and it's extremely strong.

Brandon,
Thank you for the insights...I believe I may have to drop my decision of purchasing it and blame it on the cooling fan details.
On the brighter side, keep the money for another Marklin loco.BigGrin

Hello Fans! (no pun... Smile )

I have and love both of them... but the steam wins... the working condense tender is the icing on the cake.

I would ask: Did Märklin ever produced a diesel v200 with real working fans?

Cheers,

Walter

I believe the answer is no (for V200 or V200.1). Perhaps something to look forward to?

Brawa made some diesel locos with working fans, but not the V 200.
An early model is the Köf II, but I think the new BR 261 and BR 265 optionally have working fans, too.

ESU locos have M4 - that is a different name for mfx.
The loco will register automatically on mfx controllers and there should be no issues on C track or K track.

I am considering a 37801 and I have been looking for owners impressions on this model. It certainly looks good in the pics and videos that I have seen but unless you research it online you don't really know what is inside any Marklin products anymore.

I assume that the 37801 is basically the same as the 37805 but with a MFX+ decoder? Are these DCM powered? More detail in the fans would have been nice but if we want affordability some compromises have to be made.

I like the looks of the ESU V 200 which comes out later this year. I have seen ESU loks listed online with an exclusion that prohibits shipping to the US. Does anyone know if there is a restriction on selling ESU loks in the US?
Regards,
Jim

I bought a 34171 a few years ago and and had it converted with a ESU M4V4. It is a superb model ThumpUp

The Train Dr, also fitted a Telex Coupler and has finely tuned the decoder settings for the sound, smoke, and Light effects and also it does the "Coupler Dance" when the telex is activated.

And yes I'll get around to making a video, and posting it SOON, promise Blushing

As for the V200, I think that whilst the fan detail is not perfect it is a good enough representation, I have five of them, all the C Sine versions (except for the Swiss one) [ Wink Drool RollEyes

It looks to me like 37801 is the same tooling as 37805. It appears to be DCM based, as E165841 (DCM 5 pole motor kit) is listed in the spare parts list on the Marklin website.

37805 is V200 035, with "DEUTSCHE BUNDESBAHN" block letters on the side, livery from "around 1958"
37801 is V200 042, with the DB "cookie" on the siee, livery "around 1963"

The newer 37801 also appears to have more sound functions than 37805.

Personally I would expect 37801 to look very similar, save the livery differences. The locomotive is very heavy (metal shell), and a good puller. The cab interior is not super detailed, but good enough for me. Here are a few photos of my 37805.

This is a great looking loco. My only V200 is an old 3021 which, although full of Marklin old-time character, leaves much to be desired on the detail side.

I also have a 3782 which represents the V200.1 (Br221) variant, and it is a beautiful loco, very heavy and a great puller.

This thread has inspired me to look at getting one of the 3780x tooling as a better match to my 3782.

Thanks for the info Brandon and the nice pictures are helpful too. That is a great idea to look at the spare parts list for insights into the mechanicals of a locomotive, which I had never thought to try. The schematic for 37805 clearly shows the DCM unit and I'm sure the 37801 is identical except for the livery.

I am just like Vijay, in that the only detail that bothers me is the total lack of fan details on the roof. People generally seems happy with this model though and I imagine that the other positives outweigh that. I do like the operation of Marklin locomotives with all metal construction and DCM power.

I saw a video of 37805 online with cab/engine room lighting and dual smoke units - all of which I assume were added, since Marklin does not list any of those items in their description. A high level of detail in the cab is something that looks nice when you closely inspect a lok but which I hardly ever notice once it is running on my layout.

Regards,

Jim

Was it a 37805 or was it an ESU loco? ESU comes with factory-installed cab lights and smoke units.

How are you able to include picturess with your messages directly? I wanted to include a couple of pictures of my 37805,yesterday. But the message window allows only to upload the pictures. Which later appear as links which need to be downloaded unlike pictures directly below the messages...

The video title said that it was a Marklin V200, but you are right - it was equipped like the ESU loco. The narration is in German and my German is too rusty to really follow it.

No worries, anyone can do it.

There are two ways to put images in-line in a messages:

1.) Upload the images to another website and add an image link (this is what I have done)
2.) Attach images to the post. If you do this, I believe the image file size must be 500kb or less in order for the image to show up in the thread directly. If the image is too large, it shows up as a link.

This may also help:

Carlos,

I noticed that your lok has screens in the fan areas on the top. In all of the other pictures that I have seen they just have clean, depressed circles.

Did you modify your 37805 and add that detail? That sure looks better than the plain circular depressions.

Carlos - Got it - Great idea on the weathering. It was only when I saw the images that Vijay posted that I could see any actual screen detail in the fans. By adding contrast you have made them look much better - and that answers the question that Vijay started this thread to answer, I believe.

I was already interested in a 37801 and after reading this thread I realized what a beautiful lok this is and my total lack of having one! So I order a 37801 today to remedy that problem.

I think I am going to be very happy with mine - it sounds like Vijay is happy with his too.

Thanks Everyone,

Carlos - Got it - Great idea on the weathering. It was only when I saw the images that Vijay posted that I could see any actual screen detail in the fans. By adding contrast you have made them look much better - and that answers the question that Vijay started this thread to answer, I believe.

I was already interested in a 37801 and after reading this thread I realized what a beautiful lok this is and my total lack of having one! So I order a 37801 today to remedy that problem.

I think I am going to be very happy with mine - it sounds like Vijay is happy with his too.

Thanks Everyone,

Jim

Let me know what you guys think of the fan details
I received this loco 36082 today, and I wish 37805 had the fan details like 36082..But I am happy with 37805...But 😬🤓 36082 has good fan details...image.jpegimage.jpeg

I'm perfectly happy with my 37085.
I could be wrong, but it looks as if there is a passenger on the left side, but no train driver on the right side.
German cars normally have left steering, German locos normally have right steering ("class 66" has left steering).

Yes you´re right but since my layout is U shaped, the left side of the loco is the one that´s most looked at from a viewer´s point of view so I decided to place the lokführer on the left side. Not prototypical but it works for me.

I find it interesting they went back to the DCM motor when they had a powered truck configured for a can motor-the previous models 3980x with sinus drive.

DB lokos, coaches and freight cars from across Europe
But I do have the obligatory (six) SBB Krocs
ECoS 50200, all FX and MFX decoders replaced with ESU V4s, operated in DCC-RailCom+ with ABC brake control.
With the exception of the passenger wagens with Marklin current conducting couplers, all close couplers have been replaced with Roco 40397.

I think it is another sign that future Marklin products will emphasize appearance and electronic features over expensive, high quality motors. Even in an old model such as this they are going back to a basic but serviceable motor to cut costs.

I assume that it was pretty straightforward to take a power truck from another model and make it work in the 3980x chassis. I doubt that we will ever see anything like the sinus drive in a Marklin model again, unfortunately.

That makes me wonder if you could fit the old power truck and can motor from the 3980x models into the 3780x editions. That might be easier than putting a can motor in the DCM truck.

Jim

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time.

They just had to go back to the powered truck from the 3780x locos that had c90 DCM before the C Sine motor came.
They changed BR 152, BR 182 and BR 120 to centrally mounted motors. Sooner or later we will see that for the BR V 200, too.
C90 DCM is much cheaper than C Sine or coreless motors, but c90 DCM is still relatively expensive.

The centrally mounted motors are also DCM, but in a can and without user-serviceable parts. Cheap and quiet. Take it or leave it.

Tom

That is useful information to know. Without a local dealer I would be very hard pressed to keep track of these developments without this forum.

I guess that we can hope there will eventually be replacement motor kits for those centrally mounted, cheap can motors. That might be the way of the future for Marklin collectors. Buy them for the appearance and then eventually replace the motors and decoders on our own. That would allow for the quality oriented consumer to make them into the models that they wanted Marklin to make in the first place. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out in the future.

Jim

The old 3021 is looking a lot like the roco 43524, the newer 39804 don't have the bright red color.

Photo showing the roof details on my ESU 31087 BR220. The ESU versions of the older V200 may have raised lettering, perhaps someone with one can confirm.

Yes - My ESU V200 has the DEUTSCHE BUNDESBAHN raised letters on the side. It came in a version with the DB cookie as well.

It is from their Engineering Edition line, #31089

Very finely detailed with tons of features - engine room lighting, cab lighting, even a lighted instrument panel. :-)

It also has brake sparking when stopping and squealing in curves, plus diesel exhaust smoke. The downside is that the motor stopped shortly after I got it, apparently from a hung brush. After the commutator was turned and the brush freed up though it has run fine ever since and the motor appears to be of very high quality.

Jim
