I am about to start converting a 3076 Railcar I bought last year.

Is this a SFCM motor?

Is the 60943 motor set the correct one to use on this loco?

Yes. And I think it is one of those where the 60943 fits without extra work.

Adrian, I have converted 2 versions of the BR 515 one in your colour and the other in red, both have 5 pole high efficiency motors with ball bearings, my conversion is a bit more drastic or should I say advanced, I've used 4 pin electrical couplers and also used led's for interior lights, headlights and marker lights and an ESU sound decoder, the whole works and I think a cab light was also installed.

John

these videos are quite old as you can see the E-locos are not getting their power from the overhead system as yet.

some adjustments have been since been made (headlights)

Thank you for the videos John. I didn't realise that they had more than one wagon (i.e. 515 and 815 is normal).. So is it one 515 plus a number of 815 wagons or is there a 515 at each end?

Adrian, these had the number 3028/4028 (beige) respectively and the red one came out as 3428/4028 (red), they don't have an especially good pulling/pushing power and with 3 or 4 trailers would have difficulties going up an incline. as you know the chassis is metal but the housing is plastic and the rest is the plastic interior.

you could have a consist of anything really 2 x 3028/4028 and couple them together, or 3028 and x amount of 4028's.
the difference with the 3076 is they came as a double unit plus the 2 units you couldn't uncouple and because of this the headlights where on each end, whereas the single motor unit had headlights on each end + marker lights and so did the 4028 trailer have marker lights only on one end.

3028 = produced for 13 years from 1977-1989,
3076 = produced for 5 years from 1970-1974, I find this strange as I always thought the 3028 came out first hence the lower number of 3028.
3428 = produced from 1992 onwards ?
3429 = Nokia = green - white production year = ?

John

here is the detailed conversion but certain aspects have been changed since than, especially the led's:

I have the 8328 (1977-81), which was the Hamo version of the 3028. It was converted to three rail and digital by another user on the forum. I have the 3076.1 and the Nokia 3429 Converted to mFx) which was produced from 1995-1999. I was looking for a good 4028 to go with the 8328, but since there is no complementary wagon for the Nokia I am okay with two singles and the 3076 double.

The big problem I have is that the 3076 did not come with a box and I can't find one big enough to store it properly..

Adrian, go down to your craft shop buy some white cardboard and copy the design from other boxes, you also can go to Harvey Norman get some foam which they throw out anyway from white goods or electronic equipment's.
you should be able to find second hand ones (4028) on ebay Germany.

sometimes I get something on ebay Germany get it send to a local dealer in Germany and he sends the article with other goods I've ordered from them in 1 parcel, this saves me on postage.
