We used to have our own oilfield at Schoonebeek,in the eastern part of The Netherlands. This field was exploited from the early fifties onwards. The crude oil was moved to the port of Rotterdam in dedicated tanker trains, pulled by NS Diesel locomotives series 2200 in multiple traction. The noise was tremendeous,so was the amount of exhaust fumes! As a young boy i waited for these heavy trains to pass a Rotterdam harbour bridge from underneath, always very impressive. Around Rotterdam, these trains were also pulled by NS series 2400 locomotives. Both series were built by Ahlstom in France and lasted a very long time. Roco issued some nice models of them in various colors, also for AC. |

Ausipeet, Say never never, life is short and the world can be easily travelled over nowadays. Mind you,The Netherlands of today is a very stressed society if you ask me,simply too many people on the surface available. The only place we find relaxing is the island of Texel, once a year. Take care in the Great Southern Land. |
