Hi All,

Could somebody explain this strange behavior:
I've got a ESU V2.0 for transforming my delta 3426 rail car (DC motor). I'm quite satisfied: running is rather smooth, no problem of " 0 restart" after temporary loss of contact (unlike my 29750 V100!), excellent speed regulation in case of track voltage drop (up to -8V). All those results are when using MS.
As I've just received a 6021, I checked it and was most surprised: impossible to change the railcar direction, unless I make stop then go!!!
I, then, made some experiments:
-All other functions work.
-same problem with 6021 coding switches set to "0100" or "1110" ("universal or control unit")
-No problem with 29750 loc or 37632 loc
-No problem if I use a small test layout (3 tracks!) instead of my standard layout (about 30/40m of tracks but no other current consumer)
I guess it's a problem of total track capacitance that may increase the rise and fall times of the digital signal, which is no longer understood by the ESU decoder?
Anybody has already experienced that ?

Thanks for your feedback

Fred

Fred: I have a number of ESU decoders of different types and a rather large layout, but have not experienced what you describe.

Check the position of the dip switches on the back of the 6021.
Default is Mot1, with all switches in the top position.
Check the manual for the correct position of the dip switches.
If in doubt select the gauge #1 setting.
If set correctly the display is showing direction arrows pointing up
(forward) or down.
After changing the format, do a reset by pressing the stop and go buttons simultanously until the screen flashes.

LokPilots only respond correctly to Mot2 commands with "absolute"
direction commands.

Regards,
Manfred

Some more experiments:
-When reversing direction with 6021 CU and ESU 52600 decoder, the order is, sometimes, taken into account after 30s or 1 minute!
-The rise/fall time of the 6021 is about 5 microseconds, instead of 2 for the MS. Is it the rated figure for 6021??

Fred

PS: Manfred, thanks for your answer. I have tested all the dip switch positions given in the manual, without success

Some non-digital terminal track forgotten to remove somewhere?

Did you remove the capacitors and chokes from the factory board or the motor?

Is there any other loco on the track that could disturb the LoPi2?

8V voltage drop seems very much to me.

Regards,
Manfred

My ESUV2.0 works fine in Mot.II mode of the 6021, ie. Dip Sw. #1 & 2 both ON. On the sam elayout are Uhl & 60901 & deltas, no problemo.

All this has been checked, without results!
Concerning the 8V voltage drop, it is just a test to check the decoder regulation. All my locos works with this drop, but ESU 52600 is really effective, at low speed: almost the same speed as with the standard track voltage (of course, the maximum speed is reduced!)

Anybody knows the rise/fall time of the 6021 output?

Thanks to all,

Fred
