I have bought 20 Marklin new 74491 turnout mechanisms. Unfortunately, there are 3 getting jammed. It's a nightmare. Marklin is the most famous brand of model train from Germany in the world, which got its name for its quality, but it seems just a joke. One 74491 costs about USD 20 and 20 ones get a total of USD 400 and I get 3 bad in them, that makes my layout very useless. I won't buy one anymore because the malfunction rate is so high that I am afraid that if I buy a bad Marklin easily again. Sigh!

Hello 邱仁崇,
Welcome to the forum.
Sorry to hear you're not happy with Marklin
I have moved your topic from 'digital' to the 'General MRR' forum.

Hi Sorry to hear that you have problems with the turnout mech. I have the same experience with 75491, the one for K-track. They only work i one direction. I have sent (5p)them back to Märklin, but I havn't heard anything from M yet. I thought when the came with a new version of it should be better, but not. Regard LG |

Hi! Welcome to the forum. Originally Posted by: 邱仁崇 I have bought 20 Marklin new 74491 turnout mechanisms. If you show good photos then someone will be able to tell you whether you have new 74491 or old 74491. Does "jammed" imply a mechanical problem or is this just the well-known failure of the micro-switches? Märklin quality is a case of "famous in the last century". Since about 2005 various cost-optimizations show there impact. |

I was led to believe that the "new improved" 74491 versions will not fail like the the older ones did.... and boy did they ever...I have returned "boxes" of them to M, who very quickly replaced them, only for the replacements also to fail....this was until the beginning of 2015. Havent bought the "new" ones yet, and judging by what I read in above post, I will not.... (here's hoping he has purchased the "old" stock?!??)Love your quote Tom: Märklin quality is a case of "famous in the last century" ... how very sad.... Joe
