Hi guys Can a German native help me with a proper translation of "sehr plastisch wirkend". I have seen some of the review videos on Youtube, and the speaker often talks about handrails and similar details that "sehr plastisch wirkend". For a while I thought this was a negative thing, but some times it seems like he uses the term to describe positive things. Can a German native on the forum help me understand the term. :-) Here is an example of the BR 245 from Märklin. (around 4:30) "Für die starken Seiten des Modell ... gefallen die zwei nur angespritze aber sehr plastisch wirkende Scheibenwischer Nachbildungen". ...and yes, Google does translate this into something like "looking like plastic", but the context that the term is used in, made me think that there was more to the expression than that. |

It certainly doesn't mean "looking like plastic"  , but I am also just searching for a positive sounding English translation. Perhaps something like: - appearing very realistic - looking truly three-dimensional - distinctly or remarkably molded or a combination of these three?

 A little play on Google Translate tells me that "plastich" means dimension; and "plastisch" means plastic. It is probably very difficult to hear the difference on a video. Per. ( Not native German; but a very naive Dane  ) |

"Eine Plastik" is a sculpture, a three-dimensional thing. "Plastik" is plastic.
On his videos, Walter uses that expression to point out details that are not separately applied, but still look very good to him.
I think the first two translations given by Stefan are good translations in the contexts of those videos. |
