Viessmann 5210 Signal Light Control Module and m83

Hey Guys I came across something the other day and wanted to know if anyone out there could explain it to me. I am in the process of adding/changing signals over on my layout with computer control (iTrain). I use 4012 and a couple 4011 Viessmann color light signals. I had hooked a few of them up to the 5210 viessman control module--to be able to control 2 signals with each module ( I like the fade of the signal lights as they change with the viessmann modules). I was using the new Marklin m83 to drive the 5210 modules. But they would not work. All the signal lights were on all the time. I double checked and everything appeared to work ok on its own. While after a long while, I finally substituted a viessmann 5211 (k83) for the marklin m83 and all worked beautifully. While I was trouble shooting this I came across this old thread https://www.marklin-users.net/fo...n-Semaphores-and-SignalsSo my question is why the new marklin m83 does not work with the 5210? But interesting the m83 drives the viessmann 5222 color entry signal module ( only one signal and not two like the 5210) fine with no problem. Thanks Laxman

Try to reset m83 and test by connect the first contact on the m83. By the way...shouldn´t you use signal modul 5221 and 5222 for the light signals? It works with the m83. |

That is what I found weird. I do have some 5222's and they work fine with the m83. By using the 5210 you can use it to control 2 separate color light signals with 3 aspects or less ( so less expensive and less room on control panel for one 5210 per 2 signals vs. one 5222 per one signal).
I couldn't figure out why the 5222 works with both m83 and 5211(viessmann k83); but the 5210 will not work with the m83 only the 5211 (viessman k83). Unfortunately I do not have any old original marklin k83 to test to see if they work.
I wasn't sure if there was something new in the m83 that causes this or if anyone else has had any issues with running some of the viessmann electronics with the new m83?

I can assure you that the Viessmann 5210 works fine with a Marklin k83. I have nearly finished building 16 5210's from 5290 kits and I test each one from a CS2 with a k83 and Viessmann 4016 signal.
Looking at the instruction leaflet for the 5210 I see that it says "Here you have to notice that the used decoder [i.e. the one feeding the 5210] has to send positive pulses like the k83 from the Marklin Digital~ system and of course like our compatible decoder 5211." I wonder if the m83 actually sends negative pulses or if it needs configuring in some way in order to send positive ones?
This modern Marklin digital stuff is beyond my understanding but perhaps Peter Clapcott who does understand these things may be able to comment. |

Robert Thanks for your confirmation that the Viessmann 5210 works fine with the Marklin k83. I did notice the the quote you referenced from the instruction manual and personally I do not know if the m83 sends positive or negative pulses. Still flummoxed by the fact they work with the k83 but not the new m83. Laxman
