I have the transparent 3757 DB E103 pulling my tinplate DB TEE coaches.
Interesting model.

There are some others too,sometimes issued on special occasions,such as 3672 V100/Br 212 and 3774 Br 216.

Are you having any of these?

These were all issued as demonstration locos in the early days of Marklin digital. A dealer could buy a track layout in a display case with a set of these locos. The track was laid on a Perspex base so customers could see that there was only the wiring from the digital control unit to the track to control the train, signal and points, and that there wasn't any sleight of hand involved in operating these.

AIUI they could be purchased with the layout, or purchased as separate items with the catalogue numbers you quote.

The program was extremely cleverly named 'TrainIng' the cleverness being that 'Ing' is the german title for 'engineer' so 'training to be a train engineer'. There are also clear container wagons imprinted with 'training' that were issued (I think) as a wagon to be given away if you attended a digital training class. These wagons are difficult to find in mint condition as many were in display cabinets and have gone yellow with exposure to light.

I have the three originals, but have never run them. It is an interesting "set".

IIRC the ICE was tinted blue, so not so interesting to me.

I have not heard of the SBB Lok. Is it clear or tinted?

It is/was clear, but it seems that some of the models have turned a bit yellowish in the last 30 years.

I have a Cl 216 in Tinted Yellow - note this is not one that was originally clear that has since gone yellow from UV, it is actually produced in this coloured plastic.

We have discussed these previously, I'll try to find the past topic thread.

Hello.

I have one of that ICE3 transparent blue.

It's a fantasy model that I bought as a bargain. I like it, not prototypical, but I like it...

The only issue with it is that I need to run every time to the same direction (forward for instance); if I run in 'reverse', one of the two motor axles pops out, making the locomotive to stop abruptly - seems that the axle is 0,01mm shorter than needed.

Cheers,

Walter

I remember being tempted by a 3772 Br212 that I saw once on ebay, but I was disappointed when I saw that the decoder was a 6080, instead of the 6090 that I was used to seeing for a 37xx loco. Afterwards I realised that the original 37xx numbers were allocated to the transparent body locos.

I was aware of the 3772 Br212, the 3774 Br216, the 3757 Br103 and the transparent ICE, but I hadn't seen the transparent Ae3/6 before. Are there any others?

Thanks Paul,

It's a shame these are not better documented. They probably show up in Koll's but it would be nice to see them in catalogues, even if only to show them off as special models, much as they used to do with the "silver" or unpainted models.

Most were issued as special tradefair models or demonstration models.
The 3757 E103 i found by coincidence in the shop of a trader of secondhand Marklin stuff,i had not seen it before.
The Br 89 steamer shows on page 134 of the book Wertanlage Marklin, that is all.
I have the impression it was never the intention of Marklin to sell these models to the mass, hence the low profile advertising.

In the case of the Cl216 of which I have the Yellow version, there are three other colours, the late Tom Catherall had a full set.

Mine came to me just as the body from a very kind Gent back in the days of the MML, and I recall somewhere being advised that these were not released as a full Loco, just the body.

Mine came without Windows, or Lenses, I had to take them off a standard 216 body.

Here's a photo Tom sent me a few years back of all four that he has, you can see that these also are missing the Window inserts. I jokingly hinted at the time that should they ever become surplus to his needs I'd take good care of them, expecting of course that we be enjoying his company for many more years to come. RIP Tom. You are missed.

I was also interested in the clear Br24 which I wasn't aware marklin had produced. It appears to be a factory sample if I am reading the description right.

This is my own photo of the same items, can someone confirm please, do I read the asking price of the two tinted 103 units as 1,460.00 Euro each?

Hi Walter, try pulling the "cup" out on the shaft of the motor a little, if you can. This should fix the drive shaft coming out.
