I'm reasonably new at this and need some advice please!
I have acquired 2*6021 Control units and wonder if they can be ganged together.
The few books I have indicate you can plug together a 6021 and a Control 80f - which looks to me to be the same thing basically.

Can I join them or will there be an expensive curl of whike smoke?

Any help appreciated.

Hi Ted,

NOOOOOOO,NOOOOOO and NO again you can not join two 6021 together.
Only one 6021 can be used for a layout no matter how big it is. To expand a layout for more power you need extra Transformers and Boosters
The Control 80f is used so two People can operate a Layout, however you can not use the same Loco address which the other person is using.
The reason the 6021 and the 80f look alike is that the second user has access to all the same Functions and Loco addresses.

Yes,
your two 6021 must be totally separate. You COULD use one for accessories, and the others for locos, which might save you a booster, but that's all.

Reason: both are acting as masters on the bus connecting the items.
Side note: The Intellibox has a funny feature: it allows for connecting one 6021. It behaves like many women: let's the 6021 think he is master, but does as she want's anyway.wink

Welcome to the forum,Only one 6021 per layout,If you need more controllers you need 6036 control 80f to plug right side of 6021.Keyboard,memory on left side of 6021.

This is the reason a 6021 is much cheaper to buy 2nd hand than a control 80f. The 6021 have been sold in larger numbers, especially since they are included in favourably priced Digital starter sets. Many 6021's have been sold on e-bay after salvaging a starter set.

A 6036 on the other hand, although less expensive to buy separately, is not included in any starter sets and in great demand for anyone who owns a 6021 and wants to have an extra speed control. Even if you theoretically can control 80 trains from a single 6021, it is very difficult to use it even for 2 trains simultaneously.

Gentlemen,
Thanks very much for the information - and prompt enough to stop me making a fatal mistake.
So, on with the build - the first in decades since I was a young fella!
I will watch with interest the other comments (Dissappointed etc) as I build my layout.
Cheers from down-under
Ted
