I finally got my BR-53 (37022) back from Germany where it had to be sent in for repair. When I bought it everything worked fine for the first four months and then the sound went completely dead. It had to be sent to Germany for repair since Marklin USA had no parts. It took almost four months to get back. I ran it for about three hours and........The sound is again completely dead again. I just sent an email to Ken at Marklin USA to see if there is ANY other way to get it fixed without having to wait another four months. I will wait and see what he says.

I am going to have to keep track of what it costing me to keep sending loks to be repaired. I also think Marklin should extend the warrantee. My original BR 50 had to wait eight months to get repaired the first time.

Frustrated again!

Ufffffffffffff, not good at all, but since teh repair was not done in a proper way i think Marklin should pay for the shipping.

Hi! Who is your dealer? If you bought it from him he should be paying the shipping. Also, the second time around Marklin USA should without a doubt replace the locomotive and not repair it. I know of several of these locomotives that have extensive run time and no trouble. Are you using a 6021 or MS? I am sorry to hear about all your troubles. It sounds like you are doing everything right. Are other people who bought these items through YOUR dealer having the same troubles? (their locomotives were likely made in the same batch)

How unfortunate! [:(]
I agree that for the second time, the one who sold you this should exchange a new one for you and let him deal with Marklin.

Though the turnover of Marklin here in HK is insignificantly small, my dealer will usually exchange a new one upon faulty products. With web shopping so common at competitive pricing, after sales service is of prime consideration.

Hope you can get problem solved soon.

I had a similar problem with the TRIX 22108. Had to return to TRIX twice for repairs and finally asked for a replacement..

Customer seems satisfied, not initially though.

You can request a replacement.

Good luck mate

The most common source of this problem is the speaker, which can be replaced by yourself.
If the decoder is a Loksound, you should use an ESU supplied 100 Ohm speaker.
If your Lok has a Märklin sound PCB, the speaker is an 8 Ohm unit 20mm in diameter.
Buy some a half dozen of them, they go in smoke so often.

Hi Paul,

The exact same thing happend to me but with the 37947"Klopstock". Sent it first time back to Germany for first time repair when I got it back two months later it worked for just a couple of weeks then dead.

When I get the Loco back from Germany I will just give it a test run then in it goes in the show case and I will concider this one as one of my duds.[:(!]

I've had the same experience as Jorge mentioned, the speaker of my Klopstock got killed, I've replaced it (cost only 7 euros) myself. After doing that it worked fine again, I've turned the volume down a little. It has worked since the repair for several hours without trouble.

Man!! the ongoing quality problems of these high-end/expensive locos is really quite a worry.[V][V]
You would think M would have done proper proper "type" testing on these new decoder systems.

I know we have discussed quality at length but seems to be getting worse?[:(!]

Hmmm, seems like the problem is in the loudspeaker,
or is it because the sound volume is to high so the
speaker dies ? Maybe we all should try to turn the
sound volume down to see if it works longer then,,,

I also experience that it is much faster to send it
directly to Märklin in Germany than going through my
dealer. Better to pay some porto than wait 8 months,,,

But Märklin should also, after much trouble with this
sound moduls / speakers be thinking of setting the max
volume a little bit lower to minimize the risk,,,

I personally have had only one problem with the sound
modules and that was in a V160 from a starter sett 29845.
Replaced it myself, working since.

I will check the speaker before I send it in. Thanks everyone for the input.
