Hi all,

Yesterday I've been offered a Trix Fine Art Royal Saxonian Class XV HTV locomotive. I haven't seen it since the person who sells the model lives in Germany. The model is brandnew and could be used like a Delta locomotive. What price should be fair for this model?

On the internet the only real information I could find is this: http://www.rocousa.com/d...il.asp?product_id=t42234
http://www.modellbahnrit...p.asp?rbid=0&scid=36

Does anyone have more information on this model? Or does someone have experience with this or other Fine Art models?
I'm very interested to hear from all of you!
Sander

I have the 42264 DRG version - and it runs very well - with conventional AC - not quite as well with the 6021 and not at all with the mobile station (honestly if I hadn't paid only 25 dollars for the MS I'd be filled with rage - this is the most poorly engineered Maerklin equipment ever).

I paid about 750 USD for the 42264 almost two years ago - like all "Trix fine art models" - they are "Ladenhuetter" - too expensive when they came out (made in korea with a Marklin / Trix label), but nicely built of brass, with exquisite detail

Thanks for your reply! Do you think it's possible to fit another decoder in it without breaking of the details when taking off the body? Why doesn't it work with the MS? Not even if you try to add the loco to the list manually?

A Lokpilot should fit w/o a problem - the Delta deecoder is hust slightly bigger than the lokpilot - and is located in the tender. It is relatively easy to access but to remove it / desolder the delta - I think you would to take the entire tender body off of the frame.

As far as the MS goes - mine doesn't even contain the new marklin releases from early 2005 in it's database (the RAG electric or the Herkules for example)- in fact it shows a not in the database error if you try to use a similar engine with the exact same digital address.

Mind you I don't own any MFX engines (I think!) .. so I wouldn't expect the MS to work right, it also seems to take a long time to switch from engine to engine - when it is programmed - the 6021 is much quicker. I have yet to try the MS with anyone of my Roco, Brawa, Fleischmann or Huebner locos - could be interesting.

As far as the fine art loks goes - it really is a good value - but I would certainly never pay retail price for the stuff.

Thanks for your helpful reply 7gauges. I think it's almost going to be a must-have for me. Since MS compatibility isn't a reason for buying (or not buying) a model and I don't have to pay even close to the retail price, I think I'm going to be an owner of one soon. Smile
Now, I just need to work some more long hours...

I wouldn't pay anywhere near retail for it if it is 3 rail. The beauty of buying used 3 rail brass is the lack of market for it (most brass collectors do 2 rail) These are classic "white elephants" If he will sell it I'd offer around $600, you may find him surprisingly receptive if hes been trying to sell it a while. If it was 2 rail I'd say go more but you'll never be able to resell it for much more than $600 or so. (unless you convert it to 2 rail)
