Hello,

I just finished installing new Tams LDW-1 decoder in two of my old analog locos.
But i can't program them !! I only have a Mobile Station and the programming process must be done through a 6021 (or IB ... What about CS ?).
I read that some people find a procedure to have LDW-1 programmed with MS --> http://users.telenet.be/musena/tips.htm#LDW1_MS

But i do not understant anything as it is not in english or french (sorry, i do not speak danish ^^) ...
Can anybody translate it ? Or explain me how to do this prog ...

Thx for all,

Guillaule

Hi Guillaule,

I'll try to translate this all in a simple way. (By the way, it's dutch, not Danish... wink )

Preparation:
Make sure you know the adress of the LDW-1 decoder. Usually this is 78. Prepare a special Programming track, which means, an unoccupied track with only the MS and Transformer connected. Place the loco on it. There must be at least two free places in your loco list of the MS (so 8 or less locos in the list). Create a new entry in the loco list from the database (take number 29811) and change the loco adress to the adress of the decoder (usually 78). Test the functioning of the loco by pressing the lights button, the lights should work.

Programming:
After completing the preparation phase, you can start programming.
The functions you perhaps know of the control unit are displayed as:

Sound (speaker) -> F1
Lamp (no. 1) -> F2
Signalhorn -> F3
Lamp (no. 2) -> F4
Lights on/off button -> Function on/off

So, if you need one of the control unit buttons for programming according to the manual, use the buttons of the MS stated above instead.

Getting the loco in programming mode:
1. Make sure the lights are turned off.
2. Press the STOP button (power off).
3. Wait 5 seconds.
4. Press the STOP button again (power on), don't push any other buttons!
5. Change direction (of running) up to 20 times by pressing the speed knob of the MS untill all lights of the loco start blinking.
6. You're in the main menu.

Now you can program your decoder according to the manual. Except for changing the adress! This should be done in the following way: Press the ESC button and choose "enter new loco" do so by adress (don't use the database!) Enter the desired adress and press the speed knob again. Go back to the BR 211 (29811) loco and turn the lights on and off twice to confirm adress change. Press STOP. The adress is changed. Check whether the loco responds to the new adress by changing the adress of the BR 211 (29811) to the new adress and repeat the process if you'ld like to change more settings.

If you don't want to change the adress: go to the next step in the programming mode by pussing the lights button twice.

You can quit the process by pussing the STOP button any time.

I hope I've translated everything correctly, since I don't have a MS by hand I'm not sure whether I've translated the display messages correctly.
Good luck!

Hi,
Thanks for the translation, Sander.
I'm also interested by this method for, as Guillaume, I don't have a 6021, only a MS.
Juhan, why not shift it to the Digital corner page: I think many people should be interested?

Do the Tams decoders work correctly on a layout controlled with MS? I ask because I use a LD-W-3 in the motorless unit of a Hobby ICE to control the lights, and when its on a testtrack controlled by the MS the lights do not always change when they should. On my permanent layout with a 6021 there's no problem though.

As long as there is no 'official' support from Tams for the MS/CS I would stay away from those decoders. I have a few LD-W-3s and a LD-W-1 and they are quite bad. Only good for things like lightchanges as mentioned above.

Nevertheless, thank you Sander for the explanation.

Hi Bert, I intented to buy several Tams LD-W-3 as I have some old locos to convert in digital (since my last Christmas present, a starter set with Mobile Station). But your comment about Tams decoder get me in trouble. I was interested with Tams decoder mainly because of their low price. Does anybody know the best choice (price/quality) for old 3 poles AC motor with no other function than front and back lights ? And where to buy them ? Thx.
Regards, Pil

Cheap is not always the best choice. Esu and Uhlenbrock also makes decoders in the price class between 25 and 35 euro.
M-track with a CS2.

I have two LD-W-2's. They work OK with 6021, except the load control is reacting too slowly. Maybe I didn't adjust the cv enough.
Anyway they are not as good as Märklin's decoders.

BTW: Tams has a new decoder MM LD-G-4 with shuttle function. After the braking section it changes direction. Clever, I think.

A very important (recent) addition to this procedure:

IMPORTANT: If you want to change the address of the LDW-1 decoder, you have to make sure that for every other loco programmed in your MobileStation, the lights are OFF (FUNCTION OFF; lightbulb not lighted). Otherwise, the programming of the address will fail: the LDW-1 decoder will randomly receive the address of one of the locos with FUNCTION ON, not the one you give. This can be very confusing.
(thanks to Jordey for this tip).

New address of the page is http://www.musenatrein.com/tips.htm#LDW1_MS BTW.

And a Happy New Year to all of you Smile

For AC motor , you can try Uhlenbrok 75200, ie.around 40,euro, no need for new motor parts and there's load regulation.
PD101 is cheaper but w/o load regulation.
Yet depending on your motor type (DCM/FCM ?)if it's DCM, you may as well go for a 60760 which is only app. 32,euro which includes the hi eff. motor. I will expect such sets for SFCM & LFCM be available soon. Still not very sure about if this comes with load regulation or not, mine still on it's way from German. Nonetheless, you can expect better running characteristic with the new hi-eff.motor be it regulated or not.

Hope this helps.

Eric
