To be honest I would rather it was delayed for 12 months and work as described out of the box than have it pushed thru to meet a deadline and be buggy as hell. |
Sad when its cheaper to buy a new 29640 starter set from Germany than a CS2 on its own in Oz, welcome to the joys of Marklin down under . |

I know it will never happen with "M" but it would be nice for something similar for those with CS1 upgraded some time in the future . Deadlines are no good with software ,it would be better for them to release a BETA version for testing in a real life situation instead of rushing into things just for the $$$$$$$ .
Cheers Tom in Oz.

Cheers Tom in Oz. If the M software works as I hope it would (rocrail style) perhaps ESU will say "oh, really???" and they will release their own piece of software. |

All,
there are quite a number of computer programs available that let one control a model railroad from a PC, using the marklin CS2.
What will be unique in the program that marklin is working on other than that it will have a marklin label ?
Steven, is there a functional description and/or specifications ?
Regards, Willem.

Hi, some screenshots and light description are available, from those it seems that you would be able of having the same screens of your CS2 on the PC, with several opens at the same time. |

Since the Mobile & Central Station apps for the iThingies are not free, I suppose they will cost a little.
But since the software market is as it is (with downloadable "apps"), I hope it will not be an expensive thing as their earlier applications for a PC. |

Damit können fast alle Fähigkeiten der CS2 am PC ausprobiert werden. Windoes XP, Windows 7 und Windows 8 werden direkt unterstützt." (sic) It's "free" ("kostenloser Download") and it's coming "soon" ("in Kürze"). They also write the software is being prepared ("in Vorbereitung befindlich"), therefore we don't know how many moons "soon" means in this context. In the best case "soon" could mean "afore Xmas", but that might be too optimistic. The e-mail posted by Stephen sounds as if it will come January or February or March or so ("will be available in the next month s"). They don't mention Linux or Mac. |

....all is in German . Does Marklin really intend to publish the new instructions manual in French ? English ? Spanish ? Other languages ? Tiresome. Even some US manufacturers (far from us, far from Europe...) offer a perfect French translation of the instruction manual for their central station....( tanslated & signed by a real professionnal = what a difference ! ) Marklin : rudimentary manual only.....& broken French ...

I've downloaded the CS2.exe from http://www.maerklin.de/de/produkte/tools_downloads/software_updates.html (you have to scroll to the bottom). and installed it on my laptop. It runs without any question about license. I havn't been able to connect to my CS2 since its still giftwrapped and under the christmastree ,) Oh. and it comes with a demo-software, so you can emulate running a M4, if your CS2 is not available or your computer is unable to connect to it. .thomas |

I've been playing with the app for an hour or two, and I think it has a lot of potential. I think there is a lot of room for improvement in the layout edit tool: if we could edit the layouts using the big windows-based screen instead of the small front-end view of the CS2 layout tool, it would be awesome. Also, M should include the option of rotating layout elements by just clicking on it instead of having to go to the rotate icon. If M were able to provide extra functions using the PC, for example, knowing where a loco is based on the prior route by using s88 decoders and sections (rocrail style), allowing me to send orders to any loco crossing a specific section, I would gladly pay some money (not a lot, of course) for the application. For a free app, it's pretty cool :-) |

After the start you will see a dialogue where you select the language. Warning: on my computers, only the four languages in the first row work. Selecting e.g. SV or IT will give you a German UI. If your native language does not work, EN may be the best choice for you. H0 attached the following image(s): |

My last Trix Proficlub magazine for the year arrived yesterday, and the Marklin Magazine with it was extolling this new program, and claims it WILL be available for Linux and Mac. I only had a quick look at the article, but it seemed to be talking as though the other versions were already available, but they clearly are not yet.

Just downloaded the program, looks interesting, BUT:
Most of the locomotive icons don't show (blank box where .png icon should be) all icons show up on my CS2 and in MainStation app on my iPad.
Cannot regulate locomotive speed with round speed dial, but can do so using the vertical bar graph.
Cannot control individual point/turnouts in 'layout' mode, though the new setting appears on the layout diagram when a turnout position is changed with the CS2 or iPad; can reset turnouts to pre-determined route setting when pressing on the corresponding route button on the computer layout diagram.
Haven't tried this program in planning mode (for planning layouts etc) but so far I don't see that this program is of much use, though as a free novelty item it's ok.
IMHO the MainStation iPad app is a far more relevant product in having such immense play value, being a wonderfully useful 'walkaround' remote control device for the CS2.

You need to copy your own locomotive icon into \Documents\Maerklin\CS2\Icons Of course, all icons should be copied from CS2 Very annoying when CS2 goes into stop mode when the application is closed. The second is that the application does not remember to start with all employees window. |

I am able to control individual points/turnouts using my PC via the CS2 interface. At first I thought there was a problem but then realised the CS2 was in Stop mode. I have not yet found the STOP and GO buttons on the PC version. Default list of locos is most recent when I start the Select a loco process. Changing to All locos, I get all the icons. I like the facility to have many Layout screens available but I don't seem to be able to resize the screens - only the default size is available. Have not tried to modify the screens. I agree that the iPad/ iPhone app is a far more useful product. |

I downloaded it last night but must have done something during installation to not see the CS2 so it only goes in demo mode. Mind you I also updated the CS2 at the same time. Is there a procedure to get the program to point to the CS2? I currently have it on my old Vista computer and my CS2 is connected via eathernet but via an old wi-if router(only had short eathernet cables)
I will restart both later this morning and see what happens.
I will also buy a long eathernet cable and install the program on my new laptop that I use for work (windows 7). |

I have 32 Locs, the 4499 'Waiter' car and 4999 'Dance' car; 33 of these I have downloaded into the CS2 (except for my Northlander, can't find a .png file anywhere); they display fine on the CS2, but only a few come up in the computer program, even when 'all' is selected; the name of the item selected displays with a blank box underneath. The ones that do display a picture seem to come from a very limited file in the program database, not fom the CS2 database. Thanks everybody for all the feedback/interaction: it changes its experience from a frustrating one to being enjoyable!

Downloaded it last evening and it connected with the CS2 almost immediately without any settings added by me. Very nice compared to other PC control applications where the network fiddling can take forever to get proper communication.
However, things that I have found are:
- None of the screens seem to be resizable - Messages pop up in German and not English - Quitting the application stops the CS2 and restarting the application will not restart it (I see space bar mentioned above so I will need to try it) - Trying to modify the Layout screen gives a German error message saying it cannot be done at this level. That would be a shame since it would be so much easier to do it on a PC rather than the small CS2 screen with stylus. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong.
I'm sure we will see a patch or an update soon, and it will be interesting where M will go with this or whether it will remain a secondary controller.

Just tried the spacebar suggestion for starting and stopping the CS2 from the PC and it does nothing. Any other suggestions?

Editing layout (and/or accessories) is only possible in the CS2.exe if you open the corresponding page in the main-screen only! To do this, right-klick the tab "layout" (or "keyboard") then select edit. Only allows the small screen just like on the CS2 itself though. Guess the same goes for "memory" too.
Sad thing is: Font's doesn't fit even for German language. I also would have preferred tohave "standard"-CS2-behaviour when clicking the tab's (i.e. opening the standard-screen) and having the (resizable!!) external window of the same type when right-clicking (or ctrl + click). |

This is still a "buggy first preview version" as I think of it, I'm sure there will be updates the coming months... |

I must say " Thank you" for the gift to the Märklin staff, the speed of the system running on a computer is fantastic, the cs2 has a delay every time you push the pen on the touch screen that make me a bit bored. Now all in real time, create the layout, load an icon, very nice And this is only the first release |
