This morning I was all set to run my trains and my MS2 ‘stuck’ on a particular loco. It did not respond to any button I pushed, even the ’Stop’ buttons. I unplugged the MS2 and tried again and now the stop buttons light up but all other buttons are inoperative. Has anyone had a similar problem?
At this point I’m sure it is out of any Marklin warranty.
Should I just purchase a new MS2 with the updated software?

Have you tried disconnecting your layout? It's possible a problem on the layout has caused the MS2 to hang up. I think it might behave this way if there's a short on the layout. |

Pick of all locomotivs from the track. Switch power on with the MS2. If MS2 works again,it might been default with one of the locomotivs. |

If it is dead, and you live near a good dealer, there's a chance you can get it fixed on warranty, even if it's too old. At least in Europe Marklin is rather large when it comes to exchanging defect things like that. Per. |

I had the same thing happen this week on my layout.Ihad set 2 locos moving and tried to start a 3rd loco in the 11th position without using a loco card. The two locos stopped and my MS2 froze.I turned the layout off at the wall, counted to 10 and re-connected,all honky dory.My conclusion was that although the 3rd loco was on my MS2 list,it wasn't in one of the 10 preferred positions and I hadn't saved it on a loco card so problem was solved, loco re programmed and saved on loco card.

If the stop light keeps on coming on, could be a short....a friend had the same prob a while ago; a wagon wheel had derailed and was shorting. took a while to locate!! do you have an independent test track? Joe

Thanks for all your suggestions.
I ended up sending it to ajckids and the nice folks there re-set it from a their Central station and updated the software. All at no charge.
Even though I had not purchased it from them.
I was so happy with the service that I pre-ordered a Glastkasten BR89.3 loco from them!
