My Grandson loves his wooden and plastic Thomas sets. He's going to love this one when I get it! Hope it comes before Christmas.

No, it's not. Most dealers will substitute for you if you ask. I ordered one for my grandson several micro-seconds after I first saw the link. Smile

Is it digital? (will it work with Mobile Station) or is it Analog only? Where can I find English details on this set?
Thanks

Do you know if the Bachmann Trains/Cars would be compatible with Märklin C-Track and the Märklin version of the Thomas Lok?

No, I should rather take the Hornby items, because of the greater wheel profile.
Hornby has also the additional houses and so on for Thomas the Tankengine. The houses are build after the TV series.

The Hornby stuff looks good - for Thomas type trains. Also, Hornby offers several other Engines in addition to Thomas - ie James, Percy etc... but Märklin seems to offer just Thomas engines.

Question1: Is there any indication if Märklin will offer more engines in addition to the the Thomas Tank Engine - ie James, Percy, etc...?

Question2: I do not think that the Hornby engines will work on Märklin, but will the cars work? I assume so based on the above input.

I have never seen Hornby and I am relatively new to Märklin so my next question is maybe even more naive.

Question3: Are the Hornby couplers compatible with the Märklin Thomas Tank engine coupler? If not, is it easy to change the couplers to make them consistent - ie. change all couplers to Hornby type or all couplers to Märklin type?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

ad 3) No. You have to make a car with both a Hornby and a Märklin coupling. If it is possible with Hornby I don’t know, but in that way I have rebuilded a British Lima car.

I think that Märklin first want to see if the Thomas the Tankengine set sells good. Then they can come up with new models. A new engine means that a Hornby engine has to be rebuild, so extra cost.

Another naive question then: ¿is the Märklin version of the Thomas train an OEM of Hornby - ie Hornby is the Original Equipment Manufacturer, and they are producing it for Märklin to market and distribute it under the Märklin brand? or ¿Is Märklin sourcing it from the same third part manufacturer that builds it for Hornby?
Either way is ok - I am just curious.

The price tag justifies a lot of things. Att 99€ it's a bargain, considering the trafo alone would cost about 80€ and the track pieces 30€ or more. Having a decoder installed is a very good thing, even if the starter set is analogue. Whenever you want to convert to digital the loco can be used.

Thomas is not prototypical on any "serious" layout, but for kids, who cares? My only concern is that anybody who comes to see my layout would think that it's a big toy (which of course it is not - toys are for small boys...).
