Today I got in the mail a new old stock Br 103 3358 the red one. I took the body off and the has a nice 5 pole armature motor a electronic reverse relay. I want to convert the lok to digital so I need a new magnet. I have nice Esu decoder V4.0 I just need the magnet part number.
Thank youConfused

The ESU Hamo magnet # 51962 or the Märklin #235690 are the ones to use with the existing motor parts.

I was think of trying this myself, as I was wondering how well LoPi 4.0 would work with the old 5* analog motor converted to DC, sounds interesting...

All the part numbers for these types of conversions are listed in this (sticky) topic in the Digital forum.

You could also use the 60941 motor kit for a full 5 pole motor upgrade, but the HAMO magnet will work reasonably well. I converted my 3358 with a 60760 kit, which works quite well.

Oliver, unless the loco has been converted at some stage, there is nothing to suggest this loco came with a 5 pole motor, if we talk about a 3558 than we can include the 5 pole motor as a standard motor.
changing the 5 pole motor with an ESU magnet should do the job as the 5 pole motor has the same diameter as a 3 pole motor.

you most probably find paying a few more dollars as Dave mentioned a 60760 (with decoder) or 60941 conversion set (without decoder around the US$ 36.00-39.00.

your ESU decoder version 4 would be ideal for the conversion set, especially at the lowest speed level.

Hi Oliver,

Remember to change the light bulbs to the correct ones for digital. The 33xx locos were equiped from factory with low voltage bulbs (~3V?) and I've blown up a few in the process of digital conversions!

I looked though old posts found for part information on the 3358 didn't find any. I took some pictures so you know what I mean.

Hi Oliver,

Thanks for posting the pictures, nice model, I have the same loco, but it is the 3558. According to Märklins parts lists both the 3358 & 3558 came with the 610030 five pole armature originally, which is unusual for a 33xx series loco.

I think you will be ok with those bulbs, they may be a bit bright so you may want to dim them or change to 600800's. Funny Ray should mention the low voltage bulbs, I just blew one up the other day with an analog trafo testing it, I felt pretty dumb for forgetting about thatCursing.

Cheers, Gordon
