Hello,
the Märklin Pendolino, a realy great diesel powered multiple unit, has light bulbs for the interior lightning. Other than knowm from ICE, there is no light transmission plastic to share the light in the complete wagon. Therefore, there are two high lighted areas and the power consumption is high.

I did the conversion in two steps. The first step was, to replace the light bulbs with small LED boards with less power consumption and I used more then two of these single LED boards. In the second step, a few months later, I inserted LED stripes.

1st step: single LED boards

The advantage of these single LED boards is, that it can be used directly as replacement for the light bulb. They come with self-adhesive backside and cables soldered. You can plug them directly into the original light bulb sockets:

I soldered a second LED board parallel to one to light the interior with tree LEDs:

But as You can see, the light is not homogeneously distributed:

Therefore, here comes

2nd step: LED stripes

I bounded the LED stripes onto the circuit board. In the front area, the LED stripes were bonded to the inner side of the roof:

In the previous picture, You can see the buffer capacitor for the LED stripes, too.

The LED stripes must be splitte in the area of the holes, because there will go the mounting screw of the body:

Here, you see the ready car with the cold-white LED stripes:

And this is the motor car with the warm-white single LED boards:

Someday, I will complete the conversion for both parts, probably changing to warm-white LED stripes for both.

Interesting. Where did you get the single boards from?

Same here Moritz,

I've been looking since you posted this and I can not find them either. Well not these little boards at any rate, the bulk roll 3 led segment is a different matter.
Sad when its cheaper to buy a new 29640 starter set from Germany than a CS2 on its own in Oz, welcome to the joys of Marklin down under .

Hello David, hello Shamu,

you can buy them from here: http://modellbau-schoenw...andbeleuchtung-warmweiss

Voltage: AC or DC, min. 7,00V max. 24,00V
Current: ca. 10mA
Size: L x W x H ca. - 6mm x 6mm x 3mm
Useable for digital and analog

There is a resistor and diode already on the board. There is no need to use a resisitor and/or rectifier.

Cheers Moritz,

Greatly appreciated, I've spend the last 2 months looking on eBay and general searching and could not find anything close.

No doubt searching in English for technical item in other languages is the root of the problem.

Thanks again, I owe you a bier or 3 BigGrin
