HI,

It may be for Kids but I see that it needs a I-Pad to run it . Might as well get a Train Simulator and forget about the Model Train.

How are kids going to learn practical knowledge how do build a Layout and all that goes with it.

Slick advert, surpised it s in English, roco are not known for too much English communication, their club magazine is still in German only.

I think I am missing the point though, by the time you have even the cut down z21 and an onboard camera, that is going to be a pretty expensive kids train set I would think? If not, then serious modellers are going to be buying them and ripping the camera and electronics out.

Nice fantasy ICE liveries though!

I watched the video, and browsed a little around ofr more info.

Maybe it´s my age or something, but I dont really get it. Hopefully the guys at Roco knows what they are doing, but *I* cant see the point of it.

Reminds me of the excellently well executed, but totally pointless, Apple iphone slotless slotcar set! ("Anki Drive")

Great! You don't need a train anymore, you don't need to be excited about the models, you just need an iPad. I think this commercial fails in telling me what the product is all about. The only thing I learn is, that I do not need the train. I think this product will crash and burn, simply because it fails to be what model railroading is all about: Being creative.

LEGO tried similar things in the late 1990'es and it did not work. What I think Works, is to find the essence of what makes your products interesting and then go with that. I don't believe that kids today does not like to build and "play" with model railroads. I think it is because they do not get the opportunity. I don't think creating a virtual platform, and putting kids in front of a tablet, is the essence of what makes model railroading interesting. It is just trying to make your product look cool, by wrapping it in technology, and that will only last for a very short time. They may sell a few, but I think these products will be removed very quickly.

I think Märklin MyWorld and PIKO MyTrain are much better products, because they appeal to the "creative mindset" which is in all of us. I would have been thrilled to have Märklin MyWorld when I was a kid. :-)
