Hi all, I am looking to purchase a new or near new E03. For those who have Marklin #37575 & or #39573, given the choice in hindsight which would you choose & why? They seem to be about the same price on Ebay DE.

Cheers Dave...

Hi Steventrain,

I have the Marklin Model #37571, that has the double row of vents on the side but it is an E103. I am after one with the single row & E03-001. Yes 37577 was a neat looking model.

Hi Dave,

I don't have these ones, but I have the 39579 E103 with C-Sinus motor and remotely operating pantographs. I just love that model Love . I would definitely buy that 39573 E03 with C-Sinus motor. And I will myself later too as I have 27 TEE coaches from Märklin and Röwa. I definitely need at least one more suitable locomotive for them, maybe two. E03 is also my next TEE locomotive and later another E103. I appreciate the older very good technic of C-Sinus, it's amazing pulling power, smooth and silent running and so on. I am not a big fan of sound locomotives with Mfx decoders when we are discussing about electric locomotives, so my choice is easy Cool .

Cheers,
Janne

I've got 39573. What Janne said. It is one of the best running lokos Marklin ever made.

DB lokos, coaches and freight cars from across Europe
But I do have the obligatory (six) SBB Krocs
ECoS 50200, all FX and MFX decoders replaced with ESU V4s, operated in DCC-RailCom+ with ABC brake control.
With the exception of the passenger wagens with Marklin current conducting couplers, all close couplers have been replaced with Roco 40397.

If you have a choice between a Sinus model against anything-less-than-that,
you can't go wrong with choosing the model with Sinus -- the more superior motor...

(That's what Marklin advertisement said in the past, not me! Smile )

As 39573 is one of the models using first-generation Sinus motor, its single disadvantage is that you cannot ever swap the decoder!

You will need to be happy that you won't have sound (rather redudant for e-loks in my opinion),
and you are settling with Marklin-Motorola digital protocol, 27 speed steps -- nothing fancy...

That said, I'm always happy with my own large Sinus purchases....

MM protocol, despite lacking speed curve or parameter control vs newer generation decoders, is still a remarkable performer in its own way.
It has a no non-sense approach to things.

IMO, models with large Sinus and MM protocol are still the better performer compared to newer DCM model with MFX / MFX+ decoder.

No maintenance hassle, soooo much torque, quieter, and remarkably smoother running qualities.....
Now collecting C-Sine models.

Hi!

Like Tim I would rather get the 39573 because it has C Sine motor. It also comes with yellow LEDs, but I can live with that.

The 37575 is old enough to have an ESU mfx decoder. But in many cases the combination of prototype sounds with five-pole DCM does not work very well, because model noise interferes with the decoder sound. You can always leave the prototype sound off.
Warm-white LEDs and the ability to turn the red rear lights off are advantages of this model.

And for those who care about prototype nomenclature: there never was an "E 103" (neither was there an "E 120" - both would have been DC locos not compatible with the AC main network of DB). So please rather write "103" or "BR 103".
The pre-series locos were introduced as "E 03" and became "103.0" in era IV while the main series was "103.1".
Regards
Tom

Guys many thanks for your input. I will go with the sinus motor version. I was tending to lean that way but just needed the push & now you have done it for me.

Cheers
