Does anyone know what the difference is between the new M83/84 Decoders and the K83/84 Decoders. What would I use one over the other?

Thanks.

The m83 does the same job as the k83, and now has DCC support. You have additional control over the outputs, but basically if you just need it to throw points and uncoupler tracks it will not provide you with anything new.

With regards to wire connections, the m83 and m84 has terminals. This Means that you no longer need the small plugs.

Thanks, I appreciate the answer and for the most part I get it. What is DCC though?

The main difference is that the m84 switches loads that are totally isolated from the controlling power/logic.
for each switch port pair, you can provide whatever voltage you need and are able to provide power/current requirements up to 5A
The switching is ON and OFF.

The m83 takes all it power from the controller feed and is therefore a specific value, the current ratings is also less.
the m83 is foremost a replavement for the k83 being designed for pulsed activation (not permanently On/Off) of points and signals.
That said the m83 can be configured for continuous low power loads (e.g. LEDs), and a new feature (over the k83) is the
addition of advanced configuration in this mode (dimming, blinking, marsing etc)
