Hi,

I have ordered more display cases and also some rolling stock too to fill them BigGrin . I´m planning to put some older trains into the biggest display case which is 290 cm wide and has 6 levels. I would like to ask you all which locomotives are the "right ones" for these sets, or is my choice for locomotive good in your opinion:

1. Märklin 34158 CFL Serie 5609 + Märklin 43971 CFL 1950´s set era III ?

2. Märklin 34131 SNCF 040 TC or 37552 SNCF 040 D + Märklin 43972 SNCF set era III ?

3. Märklin 3413 SNCF 131 TA 3 + Märklin older SNCF 4104, 4105 and 4106 "donnerbüchsen" cars with Relex-couplers era III ?

4. Märklin BR 038, BR 75, BR 78 or BR 86 (with DB cookie) + Märklin newer starter set 29240 "donnerbüchsen" with DB cookie era III ?

5. Märklin 37862-01 DB BR 86 (without DB cookie) + Märklin 29500 starter set 3-axle DB cars without DB cookie era III ?

6. Which locomotive Confused ? + Märklin older DRG 4100, 4101 and 4103 "donnerbüchsen" cars with Relex-couplers era II?

7. Which locomotive Confused ? + Märklin DRG 43019 passenger coach set (when I get it... Wink ) era II year 1932

8. Märklin 37540 DRG BR 55 3634 + Märklin newer design DRG 43137 "donnerbüchsen" set (when I get it... Wink ) era II?

9. Märklin S 3/6 K.Bay.Sts.B. or BR 18.4 DRG? + two Märklin 4261 DRG "Bayern" car sets (four cars all together) era II Are these from 1926 or 1931?

10. Märklin 3613 DRG BR 18.1 + Märklin 42762 DRG set (four cars) and extension set Märklin 42763 DRG set (two cars) "D119" era II year 1931

11. Märklin S 3/6 K.Bay.Sts.B. 33181, 33183 "Bayern" or BR 18.4 DRG? + Märklin 42765 Bayerische car set (five cars) (when I get it... Wink ) era I? Should be from 1920?

12. Märklin S 3/6 33183 "Bayern 3709", 37186 blue S 3/6 "3673" or 37184 BR 18 427 DRG + Märklin DRG Rheingold 41929 set (six cars) era II? From year 1927? (when I will get this car set)

13. Märklin 3094 DRG BR 03 1051 "black" + Märklin DRG "Schürzenwagen" 43201, 43211, 43221, 43231, 43261 and 43266 (six cars) era II? From what year?

14. Märklin 3412 K.W.St.E. T5 1218 "grey" + Märklin 4210, 4211, 4212, 4213, 4214 and 4229 K.W.St.E. oldtimer cars era I (From around 1910-1915, thanks Brandon ThumpUp )

15. Märklin 3614 K.W.St.E. "C 2004" + Märklin 4210, 4211, 4212, 4213, 4214 and 4229 K.W.St.E. oldtimer cars era I (From around 1910-1915, thanks Brandon ThumpUp )

I just realised that there is too much items to just fill this one 290 cm wide 6-level display case, so I have to put some of them to other display cases.... RollEyes

I have these DRG electric locomotives like Märklin 3366 (grey "modified" E 52), 37561 (E 60), 37196 (E 91), 37661 (E 52), 37681 (E 18) and 39221 (E 94), but I´m not sure how many of these could be used for passenger service. E 18 should be ok at least...

I have also many BR 18.4 DB or DRG locomotives + many K.Bay.Sts.B. S 3/6 variants. I will use my 3618 DRG "Rheingold" BR 18 434 locomotives body to a newer DB BR 18 466 underside to have another DRG Rheingold BR 18.4 with good running charasteristics and two different road numbers (18 427 and 18 434). In my opinion the Märklin 37060 EP 3/6 20102 K.Bay.Sts.B. is too small to all above combinations, but please feel free to correct me if it goes well with some combination Confused .

These will be my older train sets.

16. Maybe also Märklin 3317 SNCF 231A + Märklin SNCF 4244, 4245 and 4246 cars could also go with these trains? Is this then era II or III and from which years?

Many thanks for any suggestions or opinions in advance! ThumpUp

Regards,

Janne

Janne,

there is always the option if you don't fit it all in there are many members who would like to make life easier for you, less stress and hassles, by just helping you out to pass them on to members who have empty shelves, are short of cash but have the same enthusiasm and pride as you have to keep them and cherish themBigGrin

John,

I will do my best to be able to fill my own display cases first... BigGrin . I will maybe mix some older different style DRG cars with Relex-couplers as there was many kind of consist variations in the real life back then. But if I run out of space for my items I will then sell these ones first. I have now four display cases and will get soon four more. So there should be enough space for my items really.

Regards,

Janne

Janne,

I'll be interested to see what you do here...I only display locos, but I have similar ideas of what to do:

-Display locos by era (I, II, III, IV, etc) and railroad (such as K.W.St.E, DR, DB, ATSF, etc)
-Display locos by type (Diesel, Steam, etc)
-Display locos by era and railroad, but also subdivided by digital and analog (doing this sorts them to a degree to the type of Marklin production...more classic Marklin vs. more modern Marklin)

Right now I display them by era to some degree, but in the end I give in to what allows to to use 100% of the display cases. I think in a collection like yours it would be best to either display by era and country, or to display by loco type.

I think these are generally around 1910-1915, but I could be wrong. The Class C was made 1909-1921, the T5 was made 1910-1920. The (K.)W.St.E. became part of origin of the DR in 1920.

The Marklin liveries for 3412 and 3614 are meant to be era I. Marklin also made a couple of T5 in Black/green era I (3312 Analog, 33121 Delta), and of course the grey lady C (3311, 3511, 3611, and later issued as part of a set, I don't recall the ref. number).

Hi Brandon,

I just read this only now, so I am sorry for a late reply. I have previously displayed my locos by their type (steam, diesel or electric), by their country or railroad.

Now my latest idea is to display full trains by their era. So older trains to same place. But what I also have to do is to put some rolling stock that are not so detailed (mainly some tinplate coaches) into that 200 cm long display case. It is so difficult to put items there and take them from there as my layout is on the way. Especially to the highest levels there are some difficulties to reach the items. I don't want to take these items out of display case often for this reason. Tinplate coaches roll easily on the grooves and it is easy to put them there from one end near the door.

For the locos I will probably display my BR 18.4 and S 3/6 locos in one display case. Maybe also some BR 01, BR 01.10 and BR 03 locos in this same display case if there is room for them too.

I would also like to have my DRG locos in one display case. Lets see how it goes when I get it all done. And it is always possible to do some changes when I am not anymore happy how they are displayed.

All items with great details should be put to the levels where they can be easily seen. So the older era trains will come to these levels. There is one train which must go in the longest 280 cm wide display case and it is the TEE train DB E103 39579 with ten tinplate 24 cm coaches. Another option is to lay some Märklin C-track above this display case and put it there... It is too long to other display cases. I have twenty 24 cm TEE tinplate coaches and seven Röwa around 27 cm TEE plastic coaches. I will probably run these Röwa ones on my layout. They look really good, run well and very close to each other.

Janne
