Does Marklin sell plain Jane boxes, the outer sleeve and cardboard box? I have purchased a few starter sets recently and the lokos are in the plastic vacuformed inserts with the clear plastic sleeve, but of course no cardboard. It would be great since I store my lokos boxed to get the final package bits so they stack well with the other lokos. TIA

ECoS 50200, all FX and MFX decoders replaced with ESU V4s, operated in DCC-RailCom+ with ABC brake control.
With the exception of the passenger wagens with Marklin current conducting couplers, all close couplers have been replaced with Roco 40397.

No, I don't believe Marklin sell boxes (they may be wary of people breaking up starter sets and passing them off as more expensive models).

Auhagen sell generic boxes from their AU Box line

I think they do sell the paper card part. My dealer once got one for me, but the original was defective, so I don't know if it was an exception. The plastic part I think they don't sell (I really one, indeed).

Nevertheless it is easy to build the paper card box. You can see how it is by "unassembly" one: start by pulling in the inside shorter side to the inner center of the box. It will be easy after.

Hi all,
There is/was a firm in China that did 'old school' red boxes (search collectors corner in this forum.) As far as making your own,it should not be too difficult.

The replica boxes thread is here: LINK
You can still purchase the blue Gaudenzi replica boxes (and red replica boxes too) on ebay.

IKEA has the "VAMMEN" boxes (7 boxes for € 1,99), they are perfect for storing rolling stock, see the IKEA thread here: LINK

Matt,

Maerklin does sell neutral boxes in various sizes. You can search for Karton-Scheiber and Karton-Huelse in the free parts search option.
Maerklin does NOT sell the plastic inner liners (cradles) that hold the locomotives in place.

Which locomotives are you looking for the boxes for? if you can provide a similar number for a model not from a Start Set, I can perhaps help guide you to the right part numbers.
These days, most models now come in a standard size box with styrofoam sheets to fill in the empty space for smaller cradles.

Regards

Mike C

Here is the information that I have on spare boxes from Maerklin. I must once again reiterate that Maerklin does NOT sell the plastic cradles (inner liner) that comes with the models. The replacement boxes come in two parts, the drawer (Schieber) and the sleeve (Hülse). The cartons are neutral grey or white depending on which model and have no model number or photo on the ends.

Here are the numbers that I found (Gr=Grosse=Size):
Gr 1 is probably for small steamers/diesels
Gr 3 is probably the most common (most 4 axle electric and diesel loks)
Gr 5 is probably for the longest steam engines

Karton-Schieber (Drawer/Tray)
107500 Gr1, 107505 Gr3 107510 Gr5

Karton-Hülse (Sleeve/Jacket)
107501 Gr1, 107506 Gr3 107511 Gr5

There are also similar covers and trays available for Trix models

I do not know whether there are any for Gr 2 (Size 2) and Gr 4 (Size 4)

I think currently Märklin just adds a sticker in both extremes of the boxes Mike mentions.

I don't know if the sleeves come with the whole for we see the loco inside the box. It was good have 2 options available: one with whole and other without whole.

Edit: Although a little out of topic, I would like Märklin boxes to be in light blue like in the 60s and beginning of 70s.
It wouldn't mean Märklin is outdated, but it has history and heritage that can be proud of.
Best regards,

I think you mean 'hole' as in there is a hole in my box! Whole means complete or entire.

Thanks for the correction. The whole sleeve has a hole BigGrin

This is news to me. Cool!

Where exactly do you search for this? I have some trashed Trix boxes and would like a "refresh". :)

I think the Trix box was listed under 107502 but I think that they have renumbered them.

Search for Trix Ersatzteile and Karton-Schieber or Karton-Huelse on Google. The sizes will be similar to Maerklin.
These boxes will fit the modern Maerklin type cartons used by Trix since the company was taken over by Maerklin
Trix does NOT sell the plastic liners that cradle the locos within the package.

Actually, the sleeves come with 3 holes, one at each end to slide the tray in and out of the sleeve and a third one so that you can see what is inside.
I don' think that Maerklin made any generic boxes without the cutout in the front.

and that's the hole story as far as I know.
