So this is mostly stuff I used to know but my brain is not what it used to be so I thought I would ask again....
I know that people have used DC current to 5211 modules, and I previously used to feed 16V AC to them since I had a spare 100W 16VAC supply. In my new layout I am using that for a second booster and I am using 12V DC to power items such as lights etc....
I know the instruction sheet for the Viessmann modules says one can use 16V AC or DC.
Question #1 Has anyone used 12V DC successfully? My fear is that there may not be enough voltage to activate turnout magnets. It is probably enough to drive Viessman signal modules though (just need an impulse and no solenoid to move).
Question #2 Is it OK, and has anyone, used the 16V AC power supply taken from between the 16V AC power supply and the digital Intellibox/booster to power the 5211 modules. In other words the connection would be as follows:
16 V Ac power supply V V ======> Viessmann 5211 power input =====> Turnout motor V V booster V V track and Viessmann 5211 digital signal input etc....

Hi, C track turnout can switch with 12VDC, but very weakly, and I would not use that for reliable operation. Furthermore, using the same power unit for lights and turnout coil motors may lead to light flickering when switching the turnouts. I can't see any problem with your Q2 connection. Fred

I should have mentioned, I will be switching k-track turnouts a few of the old type but mostly the new plug in solenoid mechanisms...
Wondering if perhaps I should drive two boosters with a single 100W supply and dedicate the other 100W just for turnouts etc, seems like overkill though.....

I think that 12V DC would also be too weak for K turnout motors. On the other hand, its not necessary to use a dedicated booster for magnetic articles, for you use an external supply power for your 5211s. That external supply can be the same you use for your booster : 16VAC, for switching a solenoid motor requires very few energy (1.5A during some tens milliseconds only) Fred

I use a 60052 AC transformer to power my 5211's. I was using a 60130 converter which was feed from a 19V DC laptop power supply, but once I had a few 5211's connected, I started having certain 5211's stop working. It turns out that I must have been close or at the 60130's current limit. The 60052 works fine. Viessmann also have a 5215 power supply device which "optimizes the switching capacity of all decoders. You need only one module per system." I've attached the manual for the 5215 for future reference.

You also could have used your 19VDC laptop to directly feed the 5211 (specified for 17VAC max or 24VDC max). Nevertheless, it's surprising that the 60130 could not feed several 5211, providing they don't switch turnouts exactly at the same time. In fact, their consumption is very low on standby. (I must say that I dont know the power of the 60130, for marklin doesnot indicate it on their site, but I guess it is more than 30VA! should be on the stick on label of the converter) Fred

Fred, I think the limit of the 60130 is 2 amps. I had about 10 5211's connected (I'm using a lot of M track turnouts, with their incandescent bulbs) and I was getting the odd 5211 which was failing to respond.
