Hello,

I was hoping someone may be able to identify the chip labeled 'EF' on the circuit board of my 37505. I unfortunately cooked it when I mistakenly reversed the wires when I had to replace the electrical plug on the coupler. The chip seems to be a regulator for the LEDS as the headlights/taillights on one end of the railcar now 'flutters'. If I can identify the chip it should be easy to replace. I can't find a circuit diagram for this (or any other) Marklin trains. I have attached a photo with the chip highlighted.

thanks for any help forthcoming

Paul

Probably either a darlington transistor or a FET.

You will have to trace the cct out and see what feeds it. A FET usually comes directly out of what ever is feeding it where as a transistor usually requires the base to have some resistors either side of it or in series to set the bias.

AND you'll have to have a steady hand for the desoldering/soldering!

Thanks Chook,

I'll leave it to my son who has the steady hand and the air-soldering thingo for surface mounts.

regards

The part you are looking at appears to be a SOT89 package and the EF code is for a BCV29 Darlington transistor pair. The data sheet is available here: http://www.s-manuals.com.../bcv29%2C_bcv49_nxp.pdf. This should help you track down a replacement.

I'd say buy a few as if it went once, 1t could go again... ;-)
