Hello John!

Since there are plenty a lot of models, sizes, prices, and featured ones, the few advices I could tell you is:

- Low noise (need to ask in the store or try);
- Long battery life, enough to departure, stabilize, film, and arrive safely.
- "Strong" enough to carry on the camera (also better to try in the store if it's possible) - the manufacturer probably do not prepared the model to carry something extra.
- Radio frequency model. IMHO, the most important to take care about. Do not buy Infra-red controlled ones. Fails frequently, since the heli need clear view 100% of the time between it and the remote controller.

Of course, the more features above, the higher the price...

Another one, probably better than a chopper, is a "drone"... actually a four-propeller helicopter.

Some of them controlled by Androids and iPhones... (may spare another gadget - the remote controller)

Great videos, the new camera looks great.

Over the years I have seen a few different variations on train cams, and I was wondering how effective the new Roco camera in cab locos will be. My personal experience is that a lot of cameras are too big to go around a layout, although I did once manage to run a camera in an LGB car when we had it set up in the garden, but then the second problem kicked in which is that of focus. As most cameras use infra-red to focus, there can be issues in low light, fast moving subjects and the like where the focus is unable to lock, which leads to frustration. I am assuming your new camera has a fixed focus, or can be locked to prevent the focus from searching?

I am looking forward to seeing your results, and I hope you will be able to post some in train video of your layout soon.

As for RC helicopters, all I know if they are notoriously hard to master, and we have stuck to our RC nitro off road racers, which are great fun down at the beach.

Good news John,

I can't wait to see some video.

Rather than just putting the camera in front and run around the layout, a really nice way to make some realistic footage is to let it film another train on a double track that goes at a similar speed.

It's a mad idea you have regarding helicopter - but I like it!
