Hi all,

I would like to change the current "forward" direction to the opposite, of a few locos equipped with ESU Lokpilot V4, and without swapping/resoldering the wires coming to the motor.
Is this possible with only reprogramming a CV ?
Having read the doc, the bit 0 of CV29 seems to correspond to what I want to do, but I'm unsure so I prefer to ask...

TIA
Fabrice

Hi, Fabrice,

A single CV won't do the job. CV 29 bit 0 is the way to go, but you also have to swap the direction for F0 to also swap the direction of the headlights.

Tom

Thank you Tom !

But I just did a test, incrementing by 1 (i.e setting bit 0 to 1) the CV 29 of my test loco, and the headlight changed also automatically according to the direction without any further setting !!!

...That what exactly what I was looking for BigGrin !

Cheers
Fabrice

Then I was on the wrong track. So adjusting the headlights is only required when you soldered the motor connections incorrectly, but the lights correctly. In that case you need CV 29 plus F0 adjustment. I'm sorry for misleading you.

hi!
Yes all current ESU decoders are doing just that.
If you run in DCC you can also create "consists", what we call in French "UM" (unités multiples)
All it takes is to add a second address in CV19 and enable "consist address"
You can also configure which of the functions F0 to F16 are accessed in consist mode (e.g modify the behavior of the headlights or red taillights, etc.)
Consist address is also very practical if you have a push-pull train and install a function decoder in the pilot car.
V4 decoders have a long list of complex configuration CV matrix, but a ll this is **very simple** to do with the ESU Lokprogrammer.
Do not hesitate to ask if you need more!

Fabrice, I couldn't do without a lokprogrammer and its dead easy.

the other options Jacques mentioned you would need a adapterplate from ESU to be able to have more auxillary functions, the 51968 gives you 4 Aux functions (Aux 1 - Aux 4 but you may have to compromise the acceleration and braking mode , you still can use it but whatever is programmed on Aux 4, e.g. markerlights etc. etc. the moment you activate it the braking and acceleration is turned off.
I've made the same mistake by reversing the polarity of the motor via lokprogrammer and thought the lights would stay the same but as we found out the lights have to be changed to match the direction of the loco.
