I picked this up from a website that no longer exist.

Rumour has it that Märklin was thinking about entering the UK market in the 70s with a Z scale model of the A4 pacific steam engine (of which "Mallard" is probably the best known class member), and it seems that they even got to the stage of pre-production samples before dropping the project.
An English company called Ellmar Products Ltd in London however did break the ice for British outline Z by producing (albeit in limited numbers) a Z scale model of the Class 47 diesel locomotive. They ceased trading in 1983 the latest. There's a pet shop in the premises once occupied by Ellmar Ltd since that date...
Apparently, the produced three variations of the Class 47, namely two "large logo" livery variations and a (very rare) green liveried example.
These days, they can only be found in odd places and be picked up by chance.

Does anybody knows more, or has pictures from the other liveries.
Absolutly AFB-NOHAB fan ;-)
