Hello all,

I am using a Marklin 60055 transformer to supply 16V AC to my accessories. The two plugs on the transformer are not marked to indicate which color wire goes where (yellow and brown).

Since I want to start using a common ground between the brown wire from my ECOS 50200 (which, I believe, supplies DC), is it important to know which plug is the brown wire on the 60055?

A second question just popped in:

How can Marklin's K83 decoder be supplied with power from a seperate transformer (in my case the 60055)

Thanks-a-bunch.
Best regards,
Steven

Hi,

The outputs of the transformer and of the ECOS are galvanically isolated, then you can connect either plug of the transfo to ground.

The Marlin k83 can't be supplied with a separate transformer. Nevertheless it's possible to do that, but you need to open the k83, and de-solder a diode. Needs some skills in soldering. Some guys doing that also add a large capacitor in parallel with the existing one.

BTW, ECOS output is not DC but a alternating digital current (between, roughly, -20 and + 20V)

Fred

Edit: Also, Viessmann and other brands make "k83" with separate power capability

It doesn't matter which pole of the transformer is used for common ground. This matters only with the controllable transformers (with both red and yellow plus brown).

In the 60052 manual, they always connect yellow to the right and brown to the left (looking from the cable to the transformer).
It's just a convention. But if you use both plugs with your transformer, you have to connect them both the same way.

Regards
Tom
