Good Morning,
I've been collecting some European 2 rail models trains and I need some help!
I'm not familiar with European 2 rail DC models and I was trying to find out which HO track is most compatible to use.
I would like to make a track running with a few passing loops around my Marklin layout.
My concern in compatibility!
From what I have read so far PECO code 75 might be the way to go, but I'm not really sure as I have not tried it myself.
Can someone please help me in choosing the right track, thank you.
Michel

Michel,
You most probably know Märklin is 3 rail and Trix is 2 rail.
I can't help you with 2 rail tracks but I found K-track & C-track (3 rail) satisfactory.
regards.,
John

Hi, Michael,
Many K track pieces (including slim turnouts) are suitable for both 2 rail and 3 rail operation. C track can be altered to allow 2 rail operation (simple change for "normal" track pieces, a bit more complicated for slim turnouts, more work for R2 turnouts).
I have a few Trix locos and other rolling stock from Trix, Liliput, Piko, Roco, ... - and they run fine on C track.
This would allow to use the same track system and have some areas switch-able between 2 rail and 3 rail and the rest 3 rail only.
Code 75 could be too small if you have old stuff in your collection. |

Hi Michael
For 2-rail H0 running you cannot beat Fleishmann Profi track for running qualities. For many years I used Peco code 100 for running die cast Hornby Dublo and Wrenn models. I did find there was a durability problem with Peco points as the point switches were very fragile and suffered much breakage with heavy diecast models. With a change to Fleishmann I found their points are beautifully made and mechanically very sound after years of running. The standard radius of the Fleishmann points is about 25 inches, far better than all the other brands which is about 17 inches. This larger radius looks better and the trains run better over the wider radius. Fleishmann offer 3-way, double slip and extra wide radius express points so cover most point applications, plus a flexible 800mm length. Fleishmann also make two Profi turntables which are basically the industry standard, even Marklin markets one turntable under licence from Fleishmann. The only downside to Fleishman is whether you like the balasted look. Fleishmann also offer spare parts for their points if they do need a repair. The most import aspect of choosing a model track railway system is the quality of the points. If you are going to make a large fixed layout then the option of a flexible track in the system is a great advantage, Fleishmann has both.
Cheers Bryan
