Just read in the Hornby e-mail postage that they offer free postage to a number of countries when ordering over PSTG 100.- via the website.
Could be interesting especially for those interested in classic British trains scale 00.

Not just that, there are a couple of Italian locos made by Rivarossi that I suppose would be included.

I wonder how the English model train shops like Hornby's direct competition. This does not help to keep model train shops in existence when even the original manufacturers are competing for retail business. Marklin also have their retail outlet which is full retail price and full postage. At least their attitude does not undercut other retail outlets.

Cheers

Bryan,

Internet will take over sales from traditional shops, sure as gold.
Be it for shoes, clothes, electronics or modeltrains, buying on internet is easy and can be done from your own home even if the weather is terrible.
At least in Holland buying on internet has become a daily routine for most.
I think the applicable saying here is: If you can't beat them, join them!

On the European continent Hornby is still a bit of a funny breed.
The scale is 00,not H0,as such the Hornby loco's look a bit more fatty when put next to Maerklin stuff.
If you like the scale and if you like typical British (steam)trains,it is worth a try, knowing production is in China.
I have two Hornby Mallard type steamers on static display just because i like the model!
I still have in mind to install another display cabinet on the wall just for complete Hornby trainsets.
The pricing is a bit more attractive than Maerklin.

Cheers,
Paul.

Hornby makes a Pendolino that tempts me. BigGrin DCC set at that and the price is quite reasonable; I think it's well under 200 pounds.
