Hi,
I have purchased a Märklin 3374 locomotive.
As far as I know, this model was released with one of the 1st DELTA decoders with soldered bridges and with automatic recognition of the operation mode (analog or digital). At least, I have another one which has these features.
To my surprise, this locomotive I purchased recently has a mechanical reverse unit fitted and therefore is not able to work in digital mode.
My question is, was this locomotive sold at some point as a "pure analog" locomotive?
Iwas going to send an email to the seller (which I am sure sold it in good faith) but I need to be sure that the locomotive was never sold with a mechanical reverse unit when new.
Thank you very much and best regards. |

Thank you very much and best regards. My Koll's guide says that 3374.1 was analogue, while the 3374.2 A Dealers' Special Edition (in the Koll's Special Catalogue) was Delta.. The dealer loco has Mehr Spass auf allen Gleisen (more fun on all tracks?) printed on the side... |

My 3374 came from new as Delta, though I have since converted it with a 60760 kit.
Flicking back through my old catalogues I remember that the first 3374 in 1991/92 was analogue, with electronic reversing unit, but by the next catalogue, 1992/93, it showed as a new item in Delta. Since then it always appeared as a delta loco until it disappeared from the catalogue around 1999.
You could distinguish the 3374 from the earlier 3074 and 3674 by it's grey roof, as opposed to blue. |

Hi,
Thank you very much. Mr Kern site was the 1st place I thought of, but I did not even try to check it because I had read that it was down.
So it seems that the loco has not been "downgraded" (!) but in my opinion it is not a 3374 but a 3074-the reverse unit is not electronic but mechanical. However, the roof and sidepanels are grey and not blue.
So, at the end, I do not know for sure neither which model it is nor if it has been modified or not-it combines the body of a 3374 with the mechanics from a 3074.
Best regards.

Not easy this one..
There are three versions of the 3074 (from Koll's Guide in 2011)
3074.1 1975-77 with Running Number 216 090-1 - most definitely analogue..
3074.2 1978-1991 Most common one
3074.3 1992-1999 HOBBY with running number 216 188-3 (same as the 3374)
The photos of the 3074 and 3374 look very different.. On the 3374.1 the whole roof and upper sides are grey in colour, but the upper sides and ends of roof on the 3074.1 are painted dark blue.. Having said that, it might be that the 3074.3 has the same body as the 3374.1.. |

I would expect the first 3374 to have a mechanical reverse unit with a small PCB that prevents the loco from leaping (and a serial number beginning with an E). An MRU without additional PCB would contradict Mr Kern's list (but that list is not flawless and Märklin is known to vary things). |

Hi!
Thanks Adrian, thanks Tom. I have just checked it, number is 216 188-3 and serial number shows M2010012. So I m not sure if it is original or not but I guess it will remain as it is. |

The leading M of the serial number indicates a Delta decoder. |

Thank you very much and best regards. As far as I can see from Märklin Archiv, the 3374 came in two Versions: 1: 1991-1992, with electronically control electromecanical reversing unit, E or V in front of the serial no. 2: 1993 - on, With Delta decoder, M in front of the serial number Edited by user 18 May 2013 21:38:16(UTC)
